Default I love the key retrofit

I hated the switchblade and when I saw the post by trojanman (thanks btw) I knew what I had to do...spend $80 to get a few pieces of plastic! Ah, the joys of Pcar ownership.

I have also tinted the windows with 35% on the back and 50% on the sides. The car is a lot cooler and I like the sense of privacy.

RoW030 springs/sways and HDs are next.

Isn't it amazing how the little things mean so much. It's like that little light that illuminates the headlight switch.

I too HATE the switch blade. How did you make the switch?

You have a light that lights your headlight switch? Damn, I have something else broken?

Or are you referring to the LED in the keyhead that can light up the ignition switch?

And to mac993:
It is a relatively easy retrofit. The PCB just switches out. Taking the key out of the switchblade required a hammer and screwdriver (for me). I just busted the thing as it was going in the trash. The key then just slides into the keyhead. BTW, love those wheels Dan.

For those interested in how to do the switch (pun intended):

Is there more than one supplier for this conversion? I know Pelican Parts offers one.

... and please don't email me asking where to get the parts for the prices I listed in the DIY. I wrote it FIVE (5) years ago. Porsche parts have gone through the roof since then.

BTW, convert the bulb to an LED light if you really want to be bright.

This was the very first mod I did after two days with my 993. It's one that pays dividends everytime you turn the key

Nope...It's the headlight switch itself. There is a small bulb in there and the light symbol is always lit. That's why they always burn out so early.

Switchblade keys are so passe', all my Audi friends think they are cool by flicking the "blade".
Like some others, this was the first thing I changed,(while taking delivery), on my car.
I personally like they old school set up and have used the lighted key every time I mount up at night.

You can get the necessary parts at Sunset Porsche. I think the whole deal cost me $57 plus shipping.

Switching over is easy. Circuit board from switch blade goes into new key fob. Key from switchblade goes into the new lighted key head.

One of the best mods, certainly a good value!

Thanks Chuck. I will check it out this weekend. If it is what I think it is, I will replace with a LED bulb.

SCMomentum...yes, purchased from the dealer. This time they only got me for $80. I could have purchased from Sunset, but without any other parts to currently order the freight and handling would have made the difference moot. BTW, in Panorama this month I noticed that Strasse is selling the kit for more than what I paid.
