I also forgot to mention, with the money you save on the older m3 you could get some real nice go fast goodies at Dinan in Mountain View...

Arlen,

I had a 95 M3 coupe with a Dinan chip from 99-00 before I got my first 993. It was a pretty nice ride. I think I like the proportions of the 5 series better for a 4 door than an e36 M3 sedan, but this is a good suggestion.

I have test driven 2 540i6's and 1 530i5 and actually liked the inline six better. It revved a lot easier and the shift/clutch felt much better. The V8 did not feel that strong and the clutch and shifter felt really vague.

Reminds me of the old Benz Diesels we used to have when I was a kid. Pushing the gas pedal only made it louder, had no effect on how fast you went

That's a very reliant automobile. <subtle reference>

Someone with some photoshop talent should put some turbo twists and big reds on this 82 Reliant - in the spirit of some recent threads here.

I love my A4 as a daily driver. 4 door, small enough to be agile, big enough to be comfortable, manual transmision , 26 mpg, handles great, all maintenance is included for 50K miles/4 years and it's made in Germany.

Hey Gary...you made me miss my college years...everything was about Lee Iaccoca and the Japanese taking over the world...

I think the Cayman has a bit of the K-cars as well!!!

Default I'm thinking of changing myself.

It looks like I may be replacing my 740iL this year. I'm having a real internal wrestling match between a Cayenne S and and 03 M5. I'm looking for another daily driver car for work and family trips that will also handle the snow, with appropriate tires of course. I'm planning another Cayenne S test drive this weekend. Funny though, the annual insurance on a 2003 M5 is over $350 higher than for a new Cayenne S. I'm leaning toward the Cayenne S, but those M5 lines are unbelievable along with the 400HP; and I've wanted an M5 as long as I can remember. Just not sure I want to be dealing with shifting every day. One week it's the M5, the next the Cayenne S. It may come down to the best deal that presents itself at the time I'm ready to make a move.

Here's a M5 that was for sale a while back in the exact color I want.

Hal,

My vote is a 2003 530i, 5-speed with sports package. I had an M5 for 4 years. If I get another BMW (absolutely no E60s for me), it would be the 530i.

Good luck choosing.

I think the way to go is the '03 530i with sports package. Perhaps you can put some money into some Dinan mods . . . I have a feeling you'd love that set-up . . . ask me how I know.

If it should be fun, fast and safe for your children.....it’s simple...must be a Volvo Turbo ore the Saab 93 Aero. Very nice cars from Sweden...

Cheers from Sweden

I second that vote. Chipped to 307hp/366lb-ft. Gas mileage isn't too good tho.

BMW 5 series. Great car, safe and fast. Did anyone mention how quiet it is compared to a 993? We love our 535i. One word of warning, if you can find one with the extended BM warranty jump on it as they do have a lot of electrical goodies that get a bit cranky with age.

Cheers,

David
