My thoughts on wheel weights: If they're more than 20lbs, they're a little heavy. And that includes my hollow spoke 18's. If they're pushing 25lbs, they're REALLY heavy, and if they're near 30lbs, they belong on a Diesel truck.

Once upon a time, Porsches had light and strong forged wheels (Fuchs). Nowadays, Porsche's wheels are some of the heaviest on the market. Why does a guy buying a Subaru STI get wheels weighing 17lbs apiece, and a Porsche owner pays 3x the price for his new Pcar and gets 28lb wheels? It's ridiculous!

Short of the Veloce GT1s, I don't know of any true lightweight options without paying $4000 for a set of track wheels. Sorry for the rant, just frustrating !

Hey Mark, thanks for posting pix of your car. Looks great.

Mine is a coupe, by the way. That car pictured in my first posts I found on a European website.

The 18" cups are an aftermarket wheel only available in Europe. I'm told that they are cast in Italy but I haven't been able to get info on the weight.

In addition to weight, I was worried about the rear offset. At 47 mm, that's 18 mm more to the outside than the Porsche 18'' wheel recommended for the NB. It makes the car pictured look very aggressive, but my fear is that fenders would have to rolled.

Has anyone put a wheel with only 47mm offset on the rear of a NB?

By the way, the original turbo twists Porsche put on the 993 TT are pretty light....20 lb front and 23.4 rear. The Techart formulas are only about 2-3 lbs heavier per wheel, but are a bit wide for a NB car. The lightest weight option of all is to stick with 17" cups....18lbs F; 19.5" rear....

I'm glad you said that as I love my 17" Cups but have been tempted to swap. It's depressing that in the German market they seem to have relegated them to snow tyre wheels. They cup on Ebay all the time for little money. I wonder what a set with black centres (as per Fuchs) would look like on a silver car?

Cheers,

David

I'm *pretty* sure that a 47mm rear offset will NOT work on a narrow bodied car, regardless of how much you roll the fenders. Even if it could work, it would look straight up goofy. That is the offset for a WB.

David,

In truth, I was ambivalent to my Cups when I bought the car. But after lowering (to about RS spec), the Cups look sooooo right! ...and better than the twists, IMHO. For a silver car, I think your wheels/car would look great with something akin to "gunmetal" or medium-gray finish ...centers or whole is up to you, but it really does look great. Enjoy your Cups!

I really like the look of those Cup II wheels in 18". Twists are cool , too, but very common.

Actually, 47 mm is neither fish nor fowl.

My understanding is this:
--Narrow body rear offset was 65 mm
--Wide body rear offset is 40

18” Cup II replicas
F: 8.5X18 ET 52:
R: 10X18 ET 47
fronts are fine the rears are uncomfortably close to the lips, they are 18mm closer to the lip than the nrmal 10 w/65mmET, I would pass on them
