Does every commercial pilot consider himself to be at the pinnacle of intelligence?
Andreas,
Careful now....commerical pilot is only a type of pilot rating, not necessarily a career field. Stereotypically speaking, it is always dangerous to lump folks together just because one does not represent a specific "crowd" in an intelligent & humble manner (i.e. pompous).

mlincoln,
Your review of my intelligence was really funny and your comparing flying to driving a vehicle even funnier.
I also happen the be a Pilot with ASEL & instrument rating so don't think you're looking down your nose so much or you're in danger of tripping and never getting your foot out of your mouth.
Your personal attack was not only uncalled for but very rude at best as you tried in vain to prove your perceived superiority to mere mortals like myself.

I would like to close with a favorite ignoramus comment I have for people like you,
GF Yourself

SCMomentum,
No harm meant. I should have targeted my response more precisely to the intended recipient.

I have great admiration for pilots, regardless of rating. I just found MLincoln's post offensive - and I'm not your everyday touchy-feely, politically correct yap.

Andreas,

No worries, mate. I know where you are coming from....I've spent a fair part of my life around some of the type.

Cheers,
Dave

Exactly the real culprit...speed differential, not just speed. When I was in Germany for a stay in the '80s, the US Military spent a lot of time and money trying to educate the troops, ex-pats and their dependents about the number one cause for big accidents on the Autobahns...."Failure To Clear To The Rear" when changing lanes.....just as you describe above.

More follow-up. I wonder if the driver is going to get away with his bogus story. Kind of reminds me of OJ.... Wait, maybe Im presumptious - I let a guy I did not know - I think his name was Steffen - drive my 993 120 mph down I-5. Nice guy, I did not know who he was....

Not Just speed differentiall but FOCUS -- Most of the driving public seem to think its unconstitutional to ONLY be driving when behind the wheel -- Cell Phones being the main but not only culprit !!

IMHO

I heard from a Ferrari guy that the driver pretended to be the passenger/owner and told the CHP the driver was a German he really didn't know named Dietrich who had fled on foot.

Yep, I didn't meant to exclude the acts of those who abuse the priveledges of being stupid, I was referring specifically where speed comes into play.

Word is the drivers air bag deployed and the passenger side did not. Also drivers air bag has blood stains on it, presumptively from the driver as you might also conclude. The DNA analysis would be highly instructive on the identity of the driver I would suspect.

For me....... the lesson of all of this is not to let some stranger who claims to have some German heritage ever drive ones car on PCH in excess of the century mark. I am never, ever going to allow this to occur on my watch.

Regards, Gary

Good lesson to learn!!
