Default Side Skirt Options

I am trying to find a new/used pair of side skirts for my NB 993. I have seen the RS skirts but from what I've read, most people don't paint them because of the flexible materials. I have the RS tail and splitters and I would like to add some new side skirts as well.

I really like the look of the aerokit 1b (i think this is correct) but the prices seem to range from $800 to $1,000. Does anybody have these side skirts from better bodies or know if these are a close replica to the aerokit 1b?

Thanks for your help- JH

Talking Just get the RS side skirts, why, because..............

in the RS manual it states, "The modifications made to the body (Front Splitters, SIDE SKIRTS and RS Tail) have reduced lift values almost to zero at the same time as maintaining (sic) the same drag as for the standard (stock) vehicle.

The Porsche Factory ain't stupid. They have access to a wind tunnel...if you want the Aerokit 1 side skirts, get the remainder of the aerokit 1 package...this way you are consistent....all of this is of course, IMHO.

Is your car black? If the car in your avatar is yours . . . looks dark to me . . . maybe black? Anyway, why not just go with the RS side skirts and leave them unpainted?

Default side skirts

I just put on the Aerokit 1B skirts. I looked at all options and passed on anything that was fiberglass because.

A-I wanted original
B-Fiberglass doesn't hold up as well

Here is a pic of the Aerkit 1b installed on my car to give you a reference.

Well you know. LOL. I haven't even driven it yet. Today will be the first time I am taking it to get aligned.

Mike,

You have the patience of a saint! Not even a little trundle around? I'm impressed. The aero skirts look great on your car; I was wondering what they were.

Martin - Are the side skirts really going to make such a difference if you use aero over RS?

Cheers,

David

Caveman:

They are factory Aerokit 1B Skirts. I haven't driven it because I need to do the alignment which gets done today. After that a "trundle" will be forthcomming.

Anyone ever try to fit the RS side skirts on a C4S or turbo ? I love those. I'd go that route. Plus a supercup tail and RSCS front splitter. Cool : ) i Have a 97 turbo with OEM Euro N/A nose and Getty Design Carbon fiber RSCS splitter. I am thinking GT2 tail next. If those RS side skirts would fit I'd install those too.

JH,
If you have the RS tail and front splitters, there's no question you should do the RS side skirts. I was in exactly the same position as you, trying to choose between the paintable aerokit sideskirts and the black sporty RS skirts. I chose RS and I can't imagine my car any other way. The aerokit skirts are nice, but not with RS parts. My last 993 had Techart front splitters and painted Techart side skirts, which was a great combo. But start mixing and matching aerokit and RS parts, and you have a car that looks IMHO, well... odd.

I have the factory RS side skirts, I like the black look, my painter assures me that the flexible resins in the newest generation of painnt are up to the task, both flex and chip wise. the painter feels that painted will look better.

This is my preference

Thanks for all of the feedback. I have to admit I really like the RS side skirts as well as the one's I displayed in the picture. After looking at Mike's beautiful yellow cab, I guess I'm having a more difficult time telling the difference between the stock nb's side skirts and the aerokit side skirts. Is the primary difference that they sit much lower?
