3.8- Help me before I do something dumb..
I have a bit of extra money coming in this month from a longshot that paid out.. I keep going back to Gert's kit for 11k (euro) -I know it's a bunch of cash to dish out for a few extra horses, but it makes more sense then doing something really dumb like getting a 997.. Whatta you fellow rennlisters think? Is the extra 35hp and some torque worth 15K.. (of course it's not, when I could just get 40 imaginary HP from a $15 K&N filter) ;-)

The tractability of the RS 3.8 engine is legendary, you might try to buy a good used 3.8RS engine, they are around, and you can keep the original engine, or even sell it to recoup the investment, but I definetly go for a 3,8rs.,kind regards,Sonny.

I'm with Mark. Re-gear.
If the 15k that David mentions includes parts and installation, that sounds pretty good too.
If you are set on the 3.8 conversion, you might also check with Andial.

Colin at 9M offers heads, cams & springs for £5995 that will get you to 350HP. If you are actually looking to go faster and not just "feel" faster on street car than don't bother with a regear.

Im my experience the 3.8 litre "RS" package makes around 5-10hp more than an equivalent 3.6VR engine when both engines are live remapped to optimise the ecu program. The last 3.8 conversion we worked on came in for sorting out following the installation by another garage. It arrived with just 278bhp; after resetting the cam timing and remapping we saw 314 at the flywheel. However in comparison a stock 993VR with sports silencers that was remapped the week before made 308bhp.
The 9m 4.0 conversion is not really comparable to this kit, but what would be directly comparable is our billet cylinder head/cam/cat/remap package, the details of which can be seen here:
https://rennlist.com/forums/993-forum/243898-engine-upgrade-993-a.html
This package made 355bhp corrected on our development engine, the total parts cost being approximately £7500 plus the labour to fit it all.
I know which one I would choose, but then again, I'm totally biased!
