I've just installed these. A slightly smaller diameter pipe to the ones already done here but the effects are impressive.
An obvious increase in noise throughout the rev band with a great howl at the top end. No resonance and no irritating drone. Sounds very much like the 996 PSE but not quite as raucous!
I would have preferred a little more noise, but as cheap experiments go (£40 welding) it's a pretty decent way to use up a spare set of mufflers...

Hi David,
Any sound clips? I found if you record a clip on your digital camera and then open and save it in Windows movie maker (seems to come with MS office/windows most times?) you end up with a much smaller file (I saw 16 meg go to one meg).
Cheers,
David

The LPMM provided some of the inspiration along with examining the 996 PSE.
I had heard sound clips of the LPMM and was trying to get a similar sound level but with a different tone. What I can say is that the smaller pipe I fitted makes the system very tuneful and pleasant on the ear - kind of similar to the RSR with the volume turned up and the rattly sound suppressed.
I now have another set of unmodifed pipes and may have a second go with a larger diameter pipe and an in situ adjuster for tuning the sound.
This is one the way to making he 993 sound as it should have done from the factory..

This is definitely on my list of to do items. One of these weekends I'm gonna pull my mufflers off and just have them done. Clive, I know you used stainelss steel but do you think that's really necessary?

FWIW, I did mine in Stainless and I'm glad I did, it really holds up and is not much more expensive. A good welder can handle it with no problem.
What's the best way to get a sound clip on this forum? Do I need a video-cam or is there another way?? I've got several of these mufflers modified in various ways and would like to post the sound files...

Sorry for the thread hijack...
FO3... Yes, I'd do stainless... matches the material used on the muffler and will last longer... Normal steel will "rot" very quickly just like a cheap muffler does.

I've often wondered... why is it the top pipes always appear rusty while the bottom pipes look fine? Surely it can't be the heat difference? I was thinking the inlet pipe was mild steel and the outlet was SS.

Hi Bruce,
If you have a digital camera try taking a video clip and then reformatting it using a video editor programme (see my post above). Putfile.com seems to work quite well for clips:

Exhausts in the UK always look a lot rougher than the US ones. When they did the photoshoot for the RSRs on my car for 911 World we had to get the silencer polished up a bit before they could take the photos as it looked so rough!
Cheers,
David

I used mild steel for the pipes. The OEM pipes in mild steel seem to have lasted 9 salty UK winters so corrosion is not really an issue.

Sound clips here (well it's actually a video but it's so bloody dark you can't see anything)
Sorry it's a bit long with silent bits but I couldn't find a willing cameraman or someone readily at hand who I trusted to rag the car up the road and back.
Sounds go all the way to the end of the clip though.
