I rode in a coworkers Volvo yesterday. The cnn article is spot on. Didn't smell a thing. Come to think of it, I also didn't hear or feel anything either. Compare that to the drive home in the pcar which pretty much overwhelmes all of those senses every time I get in it. I'll take a little risk of premature illness thanks.

I can see why you'd say that, but honestly scientists are just starting to discover that phthalates are a serious problem. People are showing increasing levels of it and it's causing feminized traits in babies-- low testosterone etc. The problem hasn't been widely reported yet, but just wait.

my wife purchased a new lexus a few years back, and every couple days we had to wash the interior windows. night driving was a pain in the butt with the haze, the oncoming headlights had a halo effect. after having a personal meeting with the corporate tech rep he acknowledged they had big problem with the plastic interior pieces outgassing. eventually got the car replaced on the lemon law.

I have a hard time believing that Ford gets a good grade here. My 2005 Mustang GT vert outgasses something terrible. One needs to clean the inside of the windshield daily due to the haze deposit - and it reeks of chemical smell. The Mustang forums are full of posts about it, and they chuck it off to outgassing of the seat foam. But heck, if the only outcome is cancer and birth defects, who's to complain about a little sporting fun?
