CEL light at 75k or so miles.... C. Walrod handled the rest....... Car is only driven hard in L.A. weather.... 1200 miles per quart is best guess.

Bought with 79K miles on clock....SAI appeared within one month of owning the car...funny that isnt it!...Anyway....CEL at 79K miles...dont know PO driving but car lived in SC, now in MD as a daily driver, after reset CEL will now trigger after about 150 miles...oil usage varies but prob 1200-1500 per quart although since my last oil change (September) I have just about done 2500 miles and have only just used a quart...must be winter cold reducing oil consumption??? Plan to get flush at some point this spring/summer as smog will be due next April

74k CEL SAI. Oil consumption is like 1qt per 2-2.5k miles if that. The exhuast valves were not carboned up like some of the pictures I've seen on the list. Check valve was stuck open big time. Just completed flushing system, would suggest others to at least inspect the check valve. It takes a long time to get those passages clear after 70k, I suspect it's easier to just drop the engine and remove the cam towers, quicker too I bet you.

Bought the car with about 80K on it. Within 2k additional miles, started getting the CEL.

1996 six speed coupe. CEL SAI at 50K. Repaired by dealer. Repeat at 103K. Turned off with cheap code reader - did not return before I sold the car 3K later. No smoke or abnormal consumption. NJ car for first 96K miles, then South Carolina. Daily driver always. Car was totaled by new owner so no more problem.

Question NAY993

I have a 95-993 with 20,000 miles on it and the CEL comes on only when
its at idle, stays on for 5-15 sec and then goes off. Sometimes it will go
for weeks without coming on. I burn no oil between changes, which are
done every 2000-3000 miles. I have had 20 Porsches and still own 5 but
I must admit that my 993 is by far the best of the group. I enjoy the information
in which is shared on this forum. I read alot of imformation on Porsches and
have been involved in many race teams, so I might be able to answer questions
for members of this great forum. NAY

Bought a 1995' C2 at 75k miles, was aware it needed full clutch kit. CEL showed up at 80k miles, full "decarbonizing" of SAI ports/etc by Porsche dealer at time of clutch install, total $5k.

as luck would have it, my CEL came on after i had the car for about 300 miles (i know the PO so we worked something out). the car had around 72k on the clock. oil consumption was not significant (PO almost never had to put oil in). however, the PO did not drive this car hard. i doubt he redlined it (ever), and it was used on a lot of short trips (<10 miles at low rpm).

Default Thanks!

Thanks to all who have participated in this poll. Looks like about 1/4 of us have had the issue. I don't see anything conclusive in the emails to suggest why it happens to some cars and not to others.

Has always been a southern car.
Yesterday 2/2/05 43K CEL - SAI code on my 1yr ann of owning the car
Oil usage - 1.2K per qt
Now I'm on Rennlist looking for options.

Quotes:
Peformance Imports - $5K
Rylands - $5.5K - $6K. If just build up, Rylands will media blast with walnut and flush $2K.
Pro-Formance - $3.5K

I'll let you know.
Exactly what will Rylands do for $2K?

I'll let you know Tues as that is when I'm going to vist with them. When I called back to set up a time they thought I said a 996, not a 96' 993 so the $2K was related to a 996. They still have a "alternative" in mind. I'll hear them out and post.

70k + on the clock and no SAI yet. The car tends to get a good workout a number of times a year at the track.
