Talking Another Cayman Diss

I was wondering if porsche got their inspiration for their fog lamps from the Hyundai or Beetle?

How is it a "diss" to ask about the beetle's headlight influence?

It's a "diss" because Porsche shouldn't be taking styling cues from econo-box crap. The foglights are "stylized" instead of being cleanly designed -- they look like crap now, and they will make the car look dated and old in a year's time. Not befitting of an $80k car.

They come off as an afterthought, like,

'Damn we forgot the fogs, where we gonna get some' ,

'Let's check VW, they might have something laying around',

'Got em, now where to put em,,,hmmm, ahha!',

Now it has fogs!

A 993's headlights remind me more of a Beetle's than the Cayman does. In fact, the 993's headlights WERE influenced by the original bug-eye Beetle. If there is a recent Porsche with strong ties to the Beetle, well it's the 993 of course.

I always thought the 993 headlights looked like a combination of the 968 and 959 lights.
Anyway, FWIW I read something recently about the Cayman fog lights you guys seem to enjoy so much. According to Porsche, they were designed to differentiate the Cayman from the Boxster thereby avoiding the 996/Boxster look-alike problem when both had the same front end.

That's fine, because it's a good design.

I wonder when the 993's came out, if there was this much discussion re the front bumperettes?

For the record I like the Cayman. Haven't driven one yet but overall I like the style of it. I"ve seen quite a few of them (been by the dealer a lot lately) and the view from the back and 3/4 and side on is great.

I bet a lot of the caymans get their front ends changed out anyway. How many of us of stock 993 front bumpers? I don't.
