Your Opinion Will Factor into Decision
Ok.
Gentlemen, this is the situation.
I WILL BE purchasing a 993C2S sometime between now,
and May. I need your advice on the probabilities involving
getting what I want.
I'm looking to hit a home run:
1. An honest, quality seller. Preferably a Rennlister.
2. A very good condition 993 whose stated condition is accurate.
3. Silver/blk int; 35K-ish miles
I have been looking for this car for two years, and have not found
it in silver/blk, in either C2 or C2S.
I JUST RECENTLY missed out on a silver/blk C2S, and I feel sick
about it. I'm trying to figure out the probability of my car
appearing in the next 4 months. My thinking is that YOU GUYS
are better able to speak to the frequency with which such cars
have appeared on the market in the past. I need to know if
i'm chasing Moby Dick. The window is 4 months. If this
probability is low, then I'm going with my second choice.
Black.
What's complicating things is that I have the BLACK C2S option open
to me RIGHT NOW, from a private seller that I feel I can
trust. So, criteria 1 and 2 are satisfied, but it's not SILVER.
I don't want to lose out on another deal that fulfills two
VERY IMPORTANT criteria, for want of something that
is not feasible within the time-constraints I have set forth.
Although black is my second choice, it is a DISTANT
second to silver (personal taste).
If there were many to chose from, then I would agree
with those of you who say the search is a fun and great part
of the process. My experience has been the polar (no pun)
opposite. This search is making me SICK. I have
problems sleeping at night because of this S&*T
I'm tired and I need to get this done. If there is a discernable
consensus of opinion as to which way I should go, then I will
take that variable and throw it into the equation for sure.
BTW, how many non-metallic black colours are offered?
What are they?
Please help me. I'm pathetic and I need direction.

Exterior color ranks pretty high on one's list of priorities, me thinks. Sounds as though you are really patient, which, makes all the difference in the world. Being patient is great, but one cannot be indecisive once you have narrowed down exactly what you want like you have.

I too am a fan of silver & highly desired it as well. I found a fantastic car locally in metallic black so I compromised, but have not regretted it for one second. For me getting a good clean car from a trusted source locally, outweighed waiting for silver.

The non-metallic colors are White, Black, Red and Yellow.
Silver is much easier to take care of than Black. For myself, I can grow to like one color or the other. But ease of maintenance is something to consider.

Why the 4 month window?
I'd wait for exactly what you want, no matter how long it takes. If you don't get the color you really want, you might always wonder what it would be like to have waited. Don't settle... these cars are way to special to end up not loving them just because you don't like the color.
Also, you are really making it a lot more difficult by narrowing your search parameters by not investigating higher mileage, well cared for examples. Someone can do a lot of damage in 35k and someone else can keep it near new for 90k.
PS- Good luck if Ray Calvo sees this post.

I think you need to hold out for silver if you can, it sounds like your heart is set on it. Personally, my only color criteria was black interior, and I found a black/black that I'm in love with. Yes sometimes I have to wash it once a week, but I would do that for any 911 anyway! Also, your mileage requirement might work against you. There are many higher mileage cars that were very well maintained, and can even be less trouble (maintenance wise) than low miles cars. I would judge each one by its own merits, not by its mileage. Just my $.02
As far as your 4 month time window, is this for a high school reuinion or something? Want to make a big entrance? haha jk

You should wait for silver, but expect to pay a fair price....unless you know the seller or are fortuitious in timing it is unlikely that you will come across a low-miles, no-issues 993 in that color and body style at a bargain price....expect to pay market price or a bit above given your small time window. If money is an issue then you will have to compromise somewhere, and if the black car is being offered an attractive price you may want to strongly consider that one.

Wait and buy the car you want and look EVERYWHERE. There have been some threads in the past with good online sources for cars listed for sale. Also check out the www.993tt.com site - it has some very good links to sites that offer cars for sale like the one you're looking for.
I can't believe you've been at this for 2 years - it's sounds like you're looking to pick one up for a steal. Keep in mind that you get what you pay for and there are some very nice pristine silver cars out there.
In any case - Good Luck with your search!

My car is not a daily driver (year round), but during the summer it gets washed once a week and driven only on nice days, so I can live with the black. Heck, it looks great too considering how clean I keep it.
Good luck.
