Thanks for all the great input. In reflection, the car I sat in had no battery and the owner was considerably shorter than me... I'm guessing the seat was raised up a fair bit.

I'm going to sit in another 993 C4 tomorrow with power and check for clearance. I'll be bringing my helmet too. Between the seat lowered and mounted on the rear holes, I'm hoping it will be fine.

Well I've put a deposit down on a 1996 C4. With the helmet on (Beiffe Predator), I'm a little scrunched up. From what I've read, most tall individuals moved to a different seat. I've taken a cursory look at the back holes, but am not confident that this would be a fix in my situation (may still try it nonetheless). Is there an option for lower rails? I've looked on Pelican and Vertex, but haven't found anything yet.

What are the back holes? Is this a way to move the seat further back for long legs or does it help with headroom?

There are two sets of holes that you can mount the rails to. I just finished searching and there's a concensus that this is quite effective at giving you 0.5 to 1 extra inch of headroom. So I'm gonna give that a shot when I take posession of the car.

Yes and yes... mine's moved back and it does make a positive difference for leg- and head-room.

Easy DIY... just a hex wrench and a little muscle.

I'm *very* tall (5'7") and have no headroom problems at all. In fact, my 100K mile seats are pretty worn, and I'm sitting too low.

What if someone wanted to have more headroom but has to sit close to the wheel (shorts legs - long torso)? I have power seats. Do I just move the seat forward on the rails and get more headroom without having to slide back relative to the steering wheel and pedals? The extra holes are in the floorboard? It's where the seat rails mount to the body, not where the seat mounts to the rails, right?

Unbolt the seat, then you will see the extra holes toward the rear. Use those.

Sorry for my ignorance, but unbolt the seat from the sliders or unbolt the whole seat/slider combo from the chassis?

Sorry. As I recall, it is the slider that is moved rearward, then the seat remounted to it.

Fun fact, Porsches are specifically designed to optimally fit a person standing 5'8" at no more than 160.

Actually, Porsches have more cabin room that virtually any other high performance sports car. The Italian ones are the most cramped im my experience...

I may have a shorter torso -- I'm 6'3" and never had a problem with a helmet.
