Took 993 to the dealer for excessive oil consumption last week (39k). Dealer has determined I need new valve guides and valves etc. So far, this work ($5-6k) appears to be covered under warranty, for which I am thankful. But found out today it will take 4-6 weeks!? I wonder why they want the car so long...sheesh. They offerd up a new boxster loaner, just couldn't do it. Drove a block or two and then returned it, asked for a ride to my 06 tundra. I've owned 2 boxsters in the past and loved them, but after 3 months w/ the 993, there is just no comparison.
Question: I have been searching around this awesome forum and came upon Phosphorus Bronze valve guides. Where can I buy these, and is it worth the extra effort to have these installed instead of oem? Sounds like it...I would appreciate any feedback.
Thanks! Chance

Wow, it is covered under your warranty (assuming extended warranty). That's great.
I think I could certainly give up the 993 for 4-6 weeks to get free and improved valve guides. Heck, my 993 is down for 5 months or so due to Mother Nature.
Sorry I can't provide info on the guides.

Great for you, but how is that work a warranty item? Is it a CPO car?

Sorry, CPO is Certified Pre-Owned, which has the Porsche warranty.

It's actually BLT Garage Flooring in a diamond pattern. http://www.bltllc.com/g-floor_main.htm

Don't want to rain on your parade - but I had same problem and Porsche would not step up to the plate. I would want to something in writing from Posche and not rely solely on the dealer.

fwiw: YOU SHOULD BE JUMPING FOR JOY!
covered under warranty is what all of us would want to hear. boxster loaner ain't bad either... last time i was w/o the p-car i got a chevy truck to drive! HA!
i'm hoping that my cel comes on & i have this problem b4 my 50k mi. warranty expires. (right now just turned 40k & i have zero signs other than a dirty 'check valve')
AGAIN... consider yourself lucky & drive the crap outta' that 987 gettin' the 993 back wil b like gettin' a new car

Two things -
1. Do NOT install OEM guides. I think the technical summary is that they are "crap."
2. My guides were replaced under my aftermarket extended warranty, but only after I got a lawyer involved. If for some reason they back out of doing the work under warranty, just PM me. I have a huge file of data from Rennlist searches, PCA data, etc. You are more than welcome to use it.
