I am selling my 1997 C4S as my 1st child is on it's way and am in need a more practical family car. The car is listed in the classifieds, ad# 4755 so if anyone is or knows of someone interested let me know.

Nice, well sorted car. Good luck with the sale.
I succumed to the same act of self-flaggelation and sold a 911 when my first child was on the way...Needed a more practical car etc.
Take it from me, when you have kids, there is nothing more practical and therapeutic than stealing away in a 911 for an hour or so.
I now have two beautiful, precious children, a A6Q wagon....And a 993. All in all, a very practical arrangement.

I couldn't agree more. I have three young children and "need" the 993 more and more for "me" time. BTW, one of the great things about a 911 is the fact that it has a back seat perfect for kids. My boys love to ride back there.

--Of our 3 cars, the 993 has the lowest insurance premiums.
--Of our 3 cars, the 993 costs us the least in yearly depreciation/costs.
--The 993 is all wheel drive, so it's safe in the snow (it won't ever see the snow, but that's beside the point.

Heck, now that you're having a child, you should be looking for a 993, not selling yours.

My 993 is our Family CAR, at least that's what I told the missus - who has the Family minivan.....
Ideal if you have 2 kids under the age of 10 (or maybe 12-14yrs if you don't feed them very much....).

its always interesting to read these thread about having kids, Porsches, etc... I am in the same dilemna as the poster with my son now 7 months old. I dont think that the problem is having kids that are 4-5+ years old and a Porsche...the problem is getting from birth to that age. For us anyway, its hard to justify the 993 over the next few years...although I am hanging in there.

When faced with the need for a more "practical" car for Real Estate I had a similar choice. I kept the 993 and bought an '84 Mercedes 300SD. I've got about $4500 into it. It looks great (Signal red/palamino), gets 25mpg and is very easy to work on. Oh, and parts are cheap as long as you avoid the dealership. It also keeps miles of the 993, and it has become my "rain car".

It's a fire engine red 356A (not orange, as the crappy pic in my avatar might suggest), and belongs to a friend of mine who was transferred to Paris for three years. It used to belong to his father and he couldn't bear to get rid of it, so I selflessly offered him an indefinite spot in the carriage barn on my property (which has twelve bays...

get a couple more friends like that and you could sell your car and just drive theirs! 12 bays makes for a lot of different porsches...
