Arrow Fabspeed Airbox Cover

Ok guys....sorry, sure it's probably been posted a few times, but as time passes opinions change. I am in the market for an aftermarket airbox cover at the moment. I have purchased an OEM Airbox base and BMC Panel Filter from Dayton at Departstop. I NOW need to choose a cover. It is either OEM Motorsound, or Fabspeed "Uglyfakkecarbon" cover. What are the pros and cons? As of right now I have a cone filter setup, but don't like the fitment, and aftermarket look that much (Rubs on engine cover and manifold). I love the sound my car makes right now....and dont want to lose too much. Will I see a large sound loss fromt he Motorsound cover? Will the Fabspeed be about the same as I have now? Quieter? Louder? Performance gains? Sorry for my ignorance, but I'd love to see your opinions!

Factory motorsound is my choice. I am not a fan of fake c/f. Then again, working around the real stuff all day gets to be boring too

Get the factory motorsound, tough to go wrong..

If i got the fabspeed peice I'd DEFINATELY paint it flat black! What were they thinking with the fake CF anyways? Is this a 1996 Civic or Carrera? LOL. Real Carbon woudl have sold them WAY more peices! Chris, any ideas in sound difference between the Fabspeed, OEM Motorsound, and my Cone setup?

I dont have any experience with anything other than the standard non-MS cover, then drilled standard cover and ultimately the factory MS cover. I wouldnt change it for anything short of a turbocharger

Chris, could you do me a favor and go to Fabspeed's website and listen/watch their video where they install their airbox on a 993 Cab. I would be interested in your opinons on the sound difference.

Adam,
If you have the standard factory cover or want to pick one up cheap I'd mod it yourself. Lots of people on here have done it. I did mine almost exactly like the first one in the link attached yesterday. Thanks to ce_hensley for the cool pic that I blew up to real life size on the laptop in the garage to get the measurements. Kelly also did his very much like the Fabspeed and posted pics in this thread. Only took me about a half hour with clean up and saved a few bucks. The sound is improved over stock with the drilled cover. Cutting it out all the way or putting on the Fabspeed will probably get you a little more sound. I'm not sure what the cone filter sounds like but the fully cut box is probably as close as you'll get. Good luck.

Adam, I have the Fabspeed cover & would like to go back to stock. If you are interested, I'd be happy to trade. Since you are in Seattle, shipping would be quick & cheap, or we could just meet halfway & do the swap.

Much has been written already on Rennlist attesting to the fact that the factory intake is about as good as it gets - performance wise. Throwing on a cone filter, fauxfiber Fabspeed lid, or simply cutting your stock lid to within an inch of its life, will not yield any additional 'real' gains.

The Motorsound cover sounds great (I have one) but you can duplcate the sound exactly by flipping your stock cover over, and drilling out all of the holes that the factory was kind enough to mold in. Or you can do like Bruce and simply go to town with a 1" or 2" hole saw.

I would have reservations that the Fabspeed item would eventually allow too much moisture from rain or washing to compromise the filter.

I did just finish watching the video. That sound, from what I can tell on my laptop speakers, is very similar to what you'll experience with the motorsound lid.

That said, I get a kick out of the power claims these guys make. 6hp from the lid change??? I have never visited the Fabspeed site before. I got quite a chuckle out of their explanation of a velocity stack..

Anyhow, go with the motorsound lid, you wont be regret it..

I can do a straight across trade for the Fabspeed lid. If I don't like it I'll sell it and buy a Motorsound. This way I can try the best of everything.

I'd go with the Motorsound lid.

And really builds Horsepower! I have been told it adds 8hp.

I doubt it was by anyone here.
