I'd like to know how many people have broke a fan belt on their P-car? I'm not talking about those who neglect maintenance, I'm inquiring from those who "keep up" on their cars maintenance and know how to properly tension the belts.

I had two go on two different 993's (1 cab, one turbo) within 5,000 miles. New cars, dealer prepped. As a result, I learned at that time that there was a problem with the new 993's (belts and pulley) when they first came out and many threw belts within 7000 miles for one reason or the other. Once the original belts were replaced or the pulley updated it would not be likely to happen again for some time.

Hi,

Valid point (but those, IMHO, who 'neglect' their 993's deserve what they get).
The main reason I bought the 'click together plastic spare jobbie' is coz the LAST thing I want ever -- is to be on the side of the road, watching as my car gets flatbedded -- as goobs in Hyundai's smirk as they drive by -- all because I took the attitude 'it can't happen to me'.
(And yes, I also carry a spare DME relay).

epj993, I've used the Victor kit on my other car while back. Although it worked fine for many miles I remember the metal part was hitting the pulleys and made noise everytime it made contact - it didn't damage anything though. I'm not sure how the other one would perform (interlocking design) but it looks like it will work fine and I think that would be my choice.

Mine broke on the way back from an oil service. How about that for sod's law! Now I carry spare belts and a spare DME.

I was holding off getting one of these -- there seemed to be two main types - the one that 'clicks' together and the one with many holes that is held together by a 'joiner plus screws'.

Anyways, I now have one of these

Okay, all this talk of broken belts has made me nervous...what is a decent price to pay for one of the plastic snap-together ones??

The link style belt I showed back on post #15 runs about $7 per foot. It can be ordered from Lee Valley Tools.

Ditto, along with the tools to change it. Hope I never half to of course. Those little allen screws are a bitch to get out, especially the first time.
