I had my 97 C4S clutch and flywheel replaced with new LWF and clutch and the change is great from a performance point of view. However i have burned three alternator belts in 600 miles. The shop has shimmed, unshimmed, adjusted tension, and changed belt manufacturer. The belt starts to slip typically on downshift, or when RPM's are dropping (like in traffic) and then getting back on the gas. Does anyone have an idea of what needs to be done to solve the problem. I never had a problem with belt slippage or downshifting even on the track, yet with the LWF i am having this problem. Very frustrated, need help.
Thanks
Brian
Thanks
Brian

The belts are not being adjusted properly is my first thought. I have never seen an issue with this after a LWF install. Is it both the alternator and fan belts? Have they check the fan bearing on the alternator shaft?

Have you checked your car to see if the pulley update was done? Mine did not have this and eventually, I blew an alternator belt. I did the pulley update and no problems since.

By the way, I'm not talking about the RS pulley update. Porsche released an update to the stock alternator belt pulley. I can provide you with the appropriate part numbers if you need them.

alon,
could you give me both numbers?
The RS Pulley update,
and the porsche alternator pulley update.
I spoke with the shop and they seem to think that maybe you guys are right and they are going to take care of it. Thanks for your help i will let you know how it comes out.

If you have the new pulley update installed, the metal should have a yellowish appearance ("chromate" finish). I was breaking about a belt a year until I had this installed.

I got the numbers for the porsche pulley update. Does anybody have the RS Pulley Update part numbers?
Does the RS Pulley update change to a single belt for fan and alternator?

Boom S,
A word of caution... the RS pulley reduces the generator output by turning it slower. This benefits power but decreases the operability of seat heat, powerful sound boxes, rear window heat, AC etc etc.
My car has none of these items so for me it is not an issue... it might be more of a problem for you though.
Welcome to RL

I have to agree with Monique.
Mine is a much more of a daily driver than a track car and I had the experience of a discharged battery out in the middle of no-where. I never felt uncomfortable with the RS pulley after that.
Though to qualify, mine is a Tip and it is less convenient to keet the idle up, to compensate for the lower charge rate of the alternator, than it would be for manual transmission. Now I gotta find me one of those whistlin' exhausts.

Thanks for the help. This has been a great support structure, its amazing what you can get done by your shop when you actually have some insight into what needs to be done from other peoples experience. It's nice not to have to learn everything the hard way.
Is there a place in the states to get RS pulley?
