Eric,
I purchased via an industrial instruments web site when I was googling for KTS300... Then I found out it was actually from a fellow Rennlister!!
The one I bought was "new", complete with carry case, latest firmware and an OBDII cable.
It wasn't "cheap", hence the "investment" statement above. $2000 IIRC, which happens to be the price that was mentioned the other day for an older unit that was posted for sale on the Pelican BBS. That "old" one had ancient firmware though, so you'd need another $700 or so, on top, to bring it up to date with firmware (if still available?) and the OBD II connection cable.
Clive.

Thanks Clive. You're right, that is an "investment".
I'm curious to know what exactly you can do with the Hammer & a 993. I've done a lot of web searches looking to get some info, but with very little luck. I'm guessing that's it is more than an OBDII reader and that you can control, reset and/or modify just about any aspect of the 993's systems. Is this true?

Eric, I can only comment on what I've played around with on my 95.
Yes, you can check out almost all of the car!
DME (Motronic engine related stuff - temps, problems etc) .
ABS (open and close valves in the ABS unit - important for *full* fluid flush!),
AirCon (check the vent flaps, the Climate control functions- temps etc),
Alarm (see what's triggered - set the Sidemarkers to flash on remote lock etc)
I'm missing something (memory lapse) - probably the airbag unit - not ventured that one yet!
So yes, a lot more than the average code reader. It's really the diagnostic tool the dealer uses to check out your car and fault find.
If you can get one... I'd say go for it, you won't regret it! I've learned so much (still a lot to go though!) about the car with the Hammer and the service manuals.
I usually take it with me when I meet up with fellow 'Listers... so if anyone wants to do a quick diagnostic on their car, I'm happy to
Clive.

Sounds very cool, Clive. If I don't end up with one, I'll probably give you a call if the need arises.
BTW, do you attend the PCA breakfasts at Original Mike's in Santa Ana? If so, I plan to be there on the Dec 3rd get together. It would be great to meet you and I'd love to see your Hammer - er - Bosch Hammer, that is

So if you have a late 95 with the OBD2 style connector but it's OBD1
Is there any reader out there that I could use? Is there software and a cable that I could use with a laptop? Chris
