Default Polar -vs- Arctic silver

Was Polar Silver a rarer color than Arctic Silver? Not a competition against the two colors just wondering if the Polar Silver was a color that you saw less often than Arctic Silver.

Was the Polar Silver an additional cost at the time of purchase?

I'm not sure if polar silver is rarer than arctic silver, but it was an option that, from what I've read here, cost about $2800.

Up to 96 Polar was the available silver... after that, Arctic was available. On my sticker, Polar was a $1036 option.

You see far fewer Polar Silver than Arctic Silver on the road and for sale so I assume it's rarer. Polar is a great color.

Artic Silver was also a $1,026 option in '97. I am quite sure for the 996, Polar silver is a much more expensive option than Artic silver - like more than $1,000 more. Polar which has a blue metallic tint is rarer than Artic.

Polar is the rare color since 97' only because Porsche made it a high cost option. If you look back to pre 97' Polar was the color of choice. Still think the best combo is Polar/Blue.

Hmmm, this is the thread I remembered that figure from: https://rennlist.com/forums/showthre...ar+silver+cost

Not sure if it's accurate or if someone got gouged.

Polar was the "standard" silver through 96.

As a metalic paint there was an upcharge of roughly $1,000 as mentioned. In '97 when Arctic became the "standard" silver (Code X1 - $1,036), Polar was still on the order sheet, but now was $2,955 as a "Special Exterior Color" (Code 58), but not a special order. Color to sample, either metallic or non was $4,150.

Thanks for the information. And boy did that post that you had the link to go downhill. Sometimes things just turn ugly...

Polar Silver cost $1,036 in 1996 and $2,955 in 1998.

Arctic Silver cost $1,036 in 1997 and 1998.

Don't know about other years but those prices I got off copies of invoices.
