Front Stabilizer Bar Help
If someone has a factory front stabilizer lying around, could you please measure the distance between the two stops (washers that are welded onto the bar). I have a 24 mm bar that I am having a hard time identifying. The only bar I have off of the car that I can compare it to is the Racer's Group front "RSR" bar which has no built-on stops. The unidentified bar is slightly wider than the “RSR” bar and the distance between the washers (inside to inside) is 22 and 5/16". Any help would be appreciated. Does anyone know if 964 front stabilizer bars are the same as 993 bars?
Thanks in advance,
Hank

Chris,
Thanks. That's bad news for me, but at least I know it won't fit. Do you think the washers are welded on or do you think it is an interference fit. I wonder if they could be moved?

Thanks, Bob. I wasn't sure, but I thought so. Are you familiar with a front bar in the 25 mm range for the 993? I have a Racer's Group bar that is 25.5 mm but it does not have built-on lateral stops. You have to screw on simi-circular collars that are not suitable for street use as they bang the aluminum sub frame as the bar moves when loaded. I know Gert sells the GT2 bar, but it is only 1 mm larger than my RS bar and that only yields an 18% increase in stiffness ((24/23)^4). Any ideas?
Thanks,
Hank

The Racers Group bar has no issues with noise. This was over 2 years ago that there was an issue, and was fixed with their new bushings (They space the collar just to the outside of the aluminum). I have installed these on many cars (including my own) with no issues. If you have the bar, just get the newer bushings and it will work great....

Hank,
TRG has some new bushings that keep the collars from contacting the subframe. I've been using them for a while now without any issues.
Hope your shoulder feels better.

I agree with Bob. My RG bars are noise free. Only issue I have is the rear drop link makes some contact when the suspension is unloaded. This is a result of Koni's Vs Pss9's
I have my stock bars as well as some M030 bars if you need them. BTW do you have your old sunroof motor & gear mechanism?

David,
I do not have any of that stuff. I actually hadn't thought about what happened to those parts until just now. Thanks for your offer. I think I just need a larger bar up front to cure some of my oversteer. The RS bar is 23 and a 24.5 mm bar should give me a 28% stiffer bar up front. That might just do the trick.
Thanks again,
Hank

Your fellow tack mates would suggest you correct your oversteer by slowing down & giving us a fighting chance.
The big front bar set in the middle helped my high speed corner stability, still have some understeer in the slower corners.

There are several sway bar widths that have come on the cars over the years depending on where the front suspension in placed (inboard or outboard). All 964 narrow body, 993, 993TT use the same width front bar as the suspension carrier is mounted on the inboard position. The 964 Turbo, 964RSR, 993RSR all use a slightly wide bar by about 2" since the suspension carrier is mounted outboard. They are not interchangable without moving the suspension carrier in the front. The TRG and HR front bars are all for inboard suspension cars only.
The basic measurement for the narrow bar is 36.25" from outside of the blade to the outside of the other blade.
If anyone has the longer bar for the outboard position, I am in need of one for my racecar project and would be interestd in purchasing it.
Thanks.
