Need electrical help
Purchased a 95 993 several weeks ago and finally decided to test inflate the spare.
Pulled out the air compressor, plugged into lighter and nothing. Put lighter into lighter, wouldn't stay punched in (read alot of others had this problem), held it in, and still nothing.
Opened the fuse box, found bad fuse for lighter, replaced fuse, but lighter still not getting hot.
Replacing a fuse is about the extent of my electrical experience, but I would appreciate any help on any inexpensive diy I might be able to try before sending it off to someone else. What sort of tools/equipment would I need to have to be able try and find the problem.
Thanks for any help.
Chet

When you get past the banter in this lighter fix thread , you will see the fix about half way down page 2.

Thanks Terry,
That was the thread where I gathered other people were having a problem with the lighter staying pushed in, but prying the tabs in the socket and on the lighter didn't help it to get hot. (It will stay pressed in now, I just don't know if it's going to pop out when I find out how to get it hot.)
Any other ideas?

The compressor still doesn't work either, though I'm glad you asked. After I replaced the fuse I just checked the operation of the lighter again. But now I've checked the compressor again as well and still don't seem to have power in the socket.
See if you can get your hand up behind the dash where the lighter is. Feel for the connector that plugs into the back of the lighter housing and make sure it is pluged in. Then test the contacts in the lighter with a voltage meter. If still no power.... you will have to trace this back while testing till you find the fault.
Good luck... at least it does not sound like an intermitant problem, those are the worst to track down.

Sorry if this is a silly question but did you check for power in the cigarette socket with the engine running? The lighter is wired through Term 15 so you need to have the ignition turned on.
