The cables are plenty long so I run them from behind the radio and undre the dash. When I am using it while I drive I sit it in the center console tray, passenger seat or my lap. When not in use I unplug it and put it in the glove box or Bird Arm rest. I take it out of the car in to the gym with me also. So, I have not mounted it or even thought of a permenant position for it. Plus, my eyes are getting old and to view the readout I have to be able to get it close to my old eyes!

Sorry Chuck, just another question regarding this CDR-220. Is it really necessary to change the display from orange-on-black to black-on-orange for the 993? Since most CDR-220's that are for sale [on ebay] are the former its makes things difficult - especially as I live in Hong Kong.

It's not about the display color being changed, it's because you need to adjust the angle of the display since the radio locations of the 993 and 996 are different...otherwise you will not be able to see the display text.

I just did this install in my 996 using the Becker kit connected to my CDR220, sound quality is definitely much better comparing with the Itrip FM modulator I was using before. Prior to using it you will need to go to the setup menu on the CDR220 and turn on the AUX function.

The instructions that Becker sends you with the plug are very clear and will walk you through turning on the AUX function.

When you go this route, Becker plug and Autosound adapter, do you lose access to your remote CD changer? One of the posters mentioned disconnecting it to hook up. Perhaps this was an option so that you could control it from the head?

Im in the process of getting my C4 ready for the Ipod integration. Im going to need a DA amp because of my set up. Sony XA 300 and I already have RCA plugs in my car. Due to the fact I have my XM installed, a DA will be needed for the Ipod.

Here's how my Explorer Ipod/XM integration looked after my vehicle was broken into at the airport last week. It was with a Sony CDXF7705X CD player, JL Audio E6450 amp, Sony XA 300 (dist amp), and diamond speakers. Part of my dash was removed with the XM dock station and RCA jacks. Bastards!!!

Try the becker cascade or indianapolis pro, both of these head units offer ipod control and charging, so you can leave the ipod in the glove box. They also have sat nav and bluetooth, becker do another model without the sat nav which is much cheaper, think it's the grand prix?

For the Porsche/Becker CDR-220 you can only have one or the other (IPOD connection or CD Changer), not both. However if connecting an IPOD you will still have to control your music playlists w/ the IPOD, the CDR-220 does not have a control interface for the IPOD.

Previous posts mention what Becker units have IPOD control functions built in.

Update: For future searchers, Becker NA moved to a new building, their number is now 201-961-1300 ask for service.

On 11/1/06 I ordered the CDR-220 w/ modified controller (4462) (total $300) and the Aux In Cable/connector (BNA.1319.116 $16.40), it was delivered to my house in 3 days.

Also, there are other posts here on Rennlist that explain the replacement procedures, READ THEM. I've done several stereo swaps and expected this to be quite simple. It is, but only if you know the "gotchya's". I expected to do this in under 2 hrs., took me closer to 5 hrs. Now I could do it in about an hr.!
