Hey prez what's the deal with those 996 Turbo wheels? Is the raised area just inside the outer rim intended to keep brake dust inside the wheel? And how much do they weigh?

Hey JoH's, I'm not sure about the weight. I bought the wheels on eBay and was going to try them on a 964 Turbo I was looking to puchase but the sale fell thru. So they sat in my garage for at least 2 years until I got the C4S.

Jeff: The first time I saw those wheels--at the dealer I think--I didn't like them because of that wide lip, which makes the wheel look thick (although it's really not). But they look great on your black S. My car is black as well but its a NB. Did you put a spacer on the back or were they sized for the S? And if you don't mind saying, what's a wheel like that cost on ebay?

Default ..ripping off my own thread here but....

I really like the look of this car (it's not mine) which has Euro aftermarket 18" Cup II replicas. Some issues as to weight (unknown) and whether the rear offset (47mm) will fit the NB without rubbing. But the look is sweet....

The 993 turbo twist is grey, where this wheel is a silver color, so It does look good with black. I did not use a space, no need. They had about 100 miles on them and came with
Pirelli P-zeros. I think I paid between $1,500 & $2,000 for wheels and tires.

Those 996 turbo wheels won't fit a NB 993.

Just put on the BBS RS-GT wheels. The 245 in front fits fine, and the 285 seems not to bad on the 11" width in the rear. Could have gone 295 for more rim protection but wanted the F/R ratio.

Thanks to those who helped me with the tire specs and the decision.

Paul, our PC-discussion notwithstanding, nice wheel choice. Great on white.

Thanks. I wasn't sure how the gun metal will turn out. But I am glad that it's not really as dark as shown on TireRack's stock photos.

Seeing all the color/wheel combos in this thread sure helped out greatly on the decision. May be someone smart can put some sort of searchable picture database together. That would be handy.

Regarding the PC discussion, l'm following rbennet's very good example. " I am through." Text/message communications leave a lot to be desired and a lot of room for misinterpretation. Back to the fun stuff.

Cheers,

Cheers,
Agreed I've seen the RE's on glacier white before, which are nice - but prefer the RS-GTs now that I can compare. What are the weights?

The RS GTs are:

18x8 +50mm 20.6 lbs
18x11 +45mm 24.5 lbs

My old wheels (OE Turbo Look solid spokes for S) weighted 25.6 front and 31.1 rear!
