Is your defroster as lame as mine?
Driving in the pouring rain last night, 60 degrees, humid, coming down in buckets, couldn't see a THING, rubbing the window with a towel every three minutes. Defroster on, defroster off with AC on blowing at the window, fresh air blowing at the window ... nothing. Rear window was okay.
Is this just a 993 characteristic? The only good thing about my 996 was that it would clear the damn window in about 5 seconds.
Any of that anti-fog stuff worth trying?

It is hard for me to talk about the convertible with experience on the Coupe, only. However, the Coupe defrosts pretty well.
For maximum defrosting I have adapted to turn the A/C on (not Max), put temp all the way to red, full fan speed, closed foot and dashboard vents instead of using the defrost button, because it does not apply max temperature. Further, open the windows slightly to enhance air stream.
If this does not really help, you may have a leakage somewhere, maybe around the windscreen. I have experienced this myself and the more the A/C blew the worse it got, because the water leaked into the ventilation system and the air current picked up all the moisture.

Sounds like you need gas in your A/C system. I would take it to an A/C guy and get them to put their guages of it, they will soon advise if it needs gas or not.
If they say it's got plenty of gas then get them to check why its not drying the air.

Vic, I drove through the same weather on Saturday and defroster did its job literally in less than a minute. And kept doing it to a point that I was switching it off after a few minutes.
Does yours run the fan at full speed independent of the fan speed setting?

Vic,
It just occurred to me that IF your AC system is properly charged & functioning then it should still dehumidify supply air to the vents even with the recirc button on.

I think it's low on refrigerant ... had it topped up in July and the shop suspected there could be a pinhole leak at the condensor. Since it had never been charged before according to the records, I figured it was worth a try. How ironic ... I have to fix the AC to get through the winter!

One that that helps in most all circumstances is to ensure that the interior windows are very clean. The dust and "gases" that adhere to the windows also attract moisture that makes the windows fog very easily.

There could be another source. I found on my Targa, when there was some moisture inside the car because of the leak, the windows fogged badly and were a real challenge for the car to clear. If the inside of the car is nice and dry then it was no problem. Actually I now use the "fogging" as an indicator if the car is dry or not...
Given you have a Cab are you sure that the inside of the car is dry, no leaks, no excess moisture inside?
Cheers,
Mike
