Default Bosch Hammer -OBD I???

Is a Bosch Hammer KTS 300 the diagnostic tool needed to read OBD I codes for '95 993's?

I found one for sale and am curious if this tool will work with the 993.

Yes it is.

I have had a hammer since my MY95 C2. I also can use it with my OBD2 993TT to read many actual values as well as the air bag, ABS and CCU systems.

If you are thinking of buying one, check the firmware version as well as what cables come with it. The cables are $250 - $300 depending on source.

Enjoy.

Hi Leland,
With OBD-I, you can read the basic fault codes easily. Just turn the key on (but don't start the engine), and hold the throttle to the floor for three seconds. When the "check engine" light starts to blink, release the throttle. The light will blink the code of any stored faults. "15"--long blink, pause, one short, pause, five short (repeating) indicates no fault codes stored.

The details of the procedure mentioned by BobbyT are here.

2nd the "yes it will work"...

I have one that hooks to my '95 993 and had also used it to test others vehicles (at the HID group install @ Chuck W's).

If it's a good price.... then buy it! You really won't regret it. There is just so much that you can do with it for checking out the car. It will even tell you when you didn't know there are problems (preventative maintenance anyone!)

For reference mine was bout $2k - but worth every penny.

The really hard cable to find is for the VERY early 993's (has a big 19 pin circular connector thats located in the PASSENGER footwell...if anyone is looking to part with one - LET ME KNOW!)

The OBD style cables can be made easily (for about $80).

There's also a little "fiddle" for some of the 95's involving switching over two pins to access all the systems on mine.. PM me if you need info.

I think the last software version was 8.1 (?)

Clive.
