Default Noise on Startup

ABout 5 seconds after startup I am hearing a very loud electric motor spool up and it turns itself off after about 2-3minutes. Is what I am hearing an auxilliary oil pump? Is it typically a loud noise? Repair suggestions? The noise appears to be coming directly beneath the air filter... Thank you for your insights.

You are hearing the electric fan for the secondary air injection. This system speeds the warmup of the catalytic converters.

If the noise is like a bad howl, the bearings in the electric fan may be going. However, the fans are pretty loud, even if healthy !!!

Hope this helps.
