I know what you are talking about Joel...I'm very anxious for our beloved South Florida winter...blue sky, cool breeze and no rain whatsoever...from November to March, Miami is Paradise...

My tach is fine, but my clock is hazy and it DOES get condensation on the inside when driving along the coast (in the Bay area) on cold and damp days.

I have had condensation on the tachometer and speedometer. There was a reason for this: leaking windshield seal. After this got fixed no condensation ever again.

You might want to check your carpets, floormats, etc. for moisture.

I am suffering from the hazy/cloudy tach as well.

Assuming that it is some type of condensation I thought of removing the tach and placing it in a box with either some desiccant bags or damp-rid.

Has anyone tried this? Is it in fact condensation inside?

Thanks
John

I think the answer has been given. You need to remove the gauge, remove the bezel and glass and then clean. There's surely some kind of chemical, perhaps Rain-X, that will keep it from getting foggy again. Maybe put a tiny desicate bag under the gauge face while you have it apart. There's no way around pulling the bezel and glass. It's not that bad.

I also have a dead fruit fly or something in my tach. It's been there since the beginning and it doesn't bother me. My Tach works but the display has lost its back-light. A replacement is in order but a DIY would be better.

Just pull the tach out and replace the bulbs in the yellow plugs. No need to open the tach for that.

Woke up on this foggy Black Friday and while clear at first I got the foggy gauges (image). I turned on the a/c and it dissipated in a few minutes. Sorry if the pic is gianormous.

Here is a DIY posted by a local RL member, which should work perfectly for you. Enjoy!

My Tach has the same issue. I simply have not gotten around to cleaning it.
At one time I seem to recall having opened up a gauge from the front on my 86' Carrera of the same construction as on a 993.
It involved using a blade to carefully pry the rear facing edge of the gauge face rim away from the housing to release the rim & glass. With care any distortion of the metal is limited to the rear facing part of the rim and can be bent back into position once the glass is cleaned and reinstalled. On my 993 I added color matching gauge rings that would cover any mishaps in such a process. I also suspect a gauge servicing outfit will sell you a fresh gauge rim you can smoothly press flush with a little care.
