Default Seat Switches?

Well, I guess Porsche assigned their student interns to the electric switch team for the 993..... I have already replaced 3 different window switches and am now beginning the same adventure for the power seat switches on my sport seats.

Searched for posts on this and found none, so a couple of questions:
- Common problem?
- If I activate the switches and do not hear at least a hum I assume that it is a switch problem and not a drive problem. Make sense?
- When I look at the back of the front and rear switches they seem to have different PNs and those may not be the switch PNs since they appear to be mounted in a plastic sleeve. The PN may be for the sleeve and not the switch.
Is that correct?
- Anybody know the correct PNs for these switches for a MY 95? There are 2 rocker switches for each seat, both in operate up and down direction.
- Do you typically need to remove the seat to replace the switches? The wiring is pretty short and the connectors are somewhere out of view....

Thanks

Did you look under the seats to make sure that the wires are still connected?

I have replaced one window switch on my 993 but have not had any problems with the seat switches. However I did have problems with the switches on my 83 SC with Carerra Sport Seats. The switches could not take the current of the motors and tended to carbonize (and oxidize). After a while they would get flakey. I ended up puting relays between the switches and the seat motors, essentially letting the relays take the current. Once I did this I did not have any more problems with the switches. You have to search around for relays but its a pretty simple job. Attach the relays to the bottom of the seat.

If you do not hear a hum you either do not have power or the switch is gone. Its unlikely that you have lost all the motors at the same time. I have not replaced the switches so I am not sure of their part numbers.

I would remove the seats to work on them...its pretty easy and it just makes the access that much better.

Cheers,

Mike

U2? I haven't had seat switch problems but my right door window still doesn't work. I've replaced the switches q couple of times. It worked for a while, or the driver switch works but the right switch doesn't or visa versa. I need a wiring diagram to sort this out. Anybody know where I can get one?

90K miles on my '95; no problem with either window or 8-way seat switches.

Stop beating on them so much!

I posted on this a couple of months ago. Seat Switch Replacement

The tront and rear 4 way switches are different. They have different part numbers and different wirng bundles. You can't replace the switches without taking the seats out (I tried), unless you re-solder the wires to the new switch. Unscrew the switches and pull them out as far as you can. The P/N is on the back of the switches. Good luck!
