Default Park light LED DIY install.

Hi guys.

I've previously installed HID's, but the front park lights were a bit yellow compared to the nice new headlamps. There's a lot of white park lamp alternatives, but I regard LED's as the best alternative. However, the park light bulb is very small and I haven't seen any LED bulbs that will fit through the small hole in the park light assembly.
My spare time constantly fills up with DIY projects, this was a good opportunity...
White LED's are rather costly in small quantities, but the Nordic DIY store Clas Ohlson stock a cheap (8 Euro) alternative:

I pulled out the 6 LED's I needed. (There's 18 of them in the lamp)

Then, a bit of Veroboard, two 180 Ohm resistors, an old bulb assembly and some soldering:

It's a rather tight fit through the hole, two of the LED's are pointing sideways to "fill up" the park light interior:

The result is very nice. Here's a new LED and the old yellowish bulb installed:

I'm very pleased with the result, the LED's look great with my HID's!
Regards from
Tore

Tore,

Very nice result! Thinking of offering these in the future? Any part numbers or specs of the LEDs?

Any Rennlister have a good source for LEDs at a reasonable cost?

Funny! I was looking at this exact problem myself today (not that I have HID's - but others do).

My search found a source of BA9s based LED bulbs here:

http://www.superbrightleds.com/BA9S6_specs.htm

No affil, usage etc... just what I'd turned up looking around the web.

Question

Will any of the 1156 or 1157 bulbs listed on the website grmnxtc provided the link to work for this application too?

Clive.
Just wanted to give this thread a bump. After doing my clear corners, I ordered the parking light LED's from the above site (The old ones looked yellowish). They are great & easy to install. They do have a slight blue tint to them.

Brian -

Any pics of the LEDs installed??

Also, can you tell us simpletons (me!) exactly which bulbs you ordered??

Much appreciated.

I ordered: 12 volt
BA9s-W4 White LED bulb
BA9s Bayonet base bulb with 4 Super White 3mm LEDs
Available for 12 or 28 Volt AC/DC operation $ 2.98

Here's a pic, they are not really quite as blue as the pic looks, but I think they are much better than the stock bulbs. If you have HID headlights, I am sure they match better.

Thanks, Brian.

Are you running HIDs or are those the stock lamps?

Those are the Stock lamps. Haven't sprung for HID's yet. (Just did a clutch & flywheel, ouch!)

I bought the 'wide angle' and 'single LED' from superbrightleds.com and didn't like the poor light dispertion or the color. Neither one lights up the whole case so it gave the impression of less light rather than more. The color is bluish as well and it looked a bit too ricey for me.

If anyone wants them PM and first come first serve, I'll send them out, no charge; specify which set you want, wide angle or single led, not both. (let's spread the wealth)...

I ended up buying the OSRAM 64113's that Kim in Hawaii posted about. They're 10W halogens. After Googling it I got them at www.purelandsupply.com
