I used my 993 on a daily basis for close to 4 years. But as I get older (just turned 30 a few months ago) I want something that was a little more versital for everyday use. I bought a Honda Ridgeline about a month ago and I have to say I absolutely love that truck. It has indep. rear suspention so I rides like a car, all wheel drive, 4 doors, 260 bhp and 252 lbs/ft, tows 5000+ lbs ( so I can tow my future spec car and a TON of cool features. It's the truck for people who don't like trucks.

Use my 993 as my daily driver. Also have a Jeep Unlimited and a MB S320 that both sit in the garage. The Jeep gets a workout during the winter, the Mercedes sits and sits and sits........ (Oh how I hate that 6 cylinder in a full size luxury car). My wife drives a Tahoe and loves it. I think my next driver will be a either an F-150 or a Tacoma.

I drive an Audi S6 avant as my daily ride, it fits the bill on alot of levels. I'm about to replace it with an S4 avant if I can find a dealer who isn't intent of financial molestation. The S4 is a bit smaller but the car is a great hauler and quick to boot.

996 daily driver, 993 C4S is the garage queen. Because life is too short to drive unexciting cars or drink cheap wine. PORSCHE- there is no substitute.

Bought a '01 325i touring since March '05. It replaced a lemoned Volvo XC90. This is a daily driver that we've driven more than 10K since March. Suffice to say, it carries two kids, costco runs, errands, and where ever else my wife and I need to go.

To say this car is more fun to drive is an understatement. Sure it's a smaller vehicle, but using the priorities CP identified, this car would (for me) satisfies:
(1) Safety. (equal)
(2) Reliability. (volvo = lemon, bmw = minor warranty issues, nothing major)
(3) Comfort and space. (any smaller and this might come into question, especially with two boys)
(4) Reasonable operating cost. (14 mpg in the volvo, 24 mpg in the BMW, easy math)
(5) Fun to drive. (no contest, advantage BMW)
(8) Sportiness. (advantage BMW)

As far as the below, it's daily driver and it seems everyone in the Bay Area drives a BMW anyways. Pretty much invisible.

(6) High HP. torque.
(7) panache and brand appeal.

Good luck!

i'm 100% with you dude. audi has a really nice v8. we also have an s6 (child seats, strollers) and are looking to replace it in a year with an s4 avant. if you haven't driven the current generation s4, you won't be disappointed. by the way- do you happen to know the production numbers of the s6 (how many they sent to the us)?

My 993 is my daily driver (although my daily drive is only to the y for my workout). And I, too, found that "as I got older" the compromise to the tiptronic was in order. But to my surprise, it's just as much fun as the manual; although one gear short. Double clutching (which became an unbreakable habit) downshifts would be a whole lot more work than with the tip.

CP, why not another e39? A 2003 540 sport would be very nice, have all the airbags, and you are personally familiar with how crashworthy they are. Not an M5, but more than you need for most daily requirements.
