Oil cooler fan
After searching thru the archives I figured the easy fix for my overheating car was to disconnect the cable so that the oil cooler fan is on fast, all the time. I am looking into installing the manual switch but I was curious as to the downside of having the fan on fast all the time. Any thoughts?

IMHO the best bet is to confirm it operates correctly AND do the manual over ride modification found on Robin's site, www.p-car.com in the DIY section.

I in traffic the car would get above 9oclock but never greater than 248 degrees. I live in park city but work in salt lake. The drive is 25min - 15 on freeway 10 city street. The engine would get above 9oclock on the way home (granted this is in 90+ temp) and even after getting on freeway would not necessarily cool down. Indeed, the drive up the hill can sometimes be spirited but I thought it was above 9more than it should have been. A guy i work with has a 96, has the same commute and does not have any issues. My guess is that the fan is not working in low speed (correct terminology?) I will run through the check system on p-car (great website - thx Robin et al how have contributed!) to see if I can diagnose the problem. But is sounds like this could be one of those quirks - otherwise why would there be demand for the manual switch option?
BTW - since disconnecting the cable the engine has stayed below the 194 mark, even in traffic.

The one downside I see is the high electrical draw on both your battery and your alternator. (This problem would be a bigger issue in my case as I have a 36 ah battery and the RS pulley which turns the alternator at a lower speed ...)
Until you get a fix, I suggest you plug in your battery conditioner every evening. The Porsche one which plugs into the cig lighter socket works very well.
