Default Best power upgrade path for dual purpose (street/DE) use

OK... so I've done the suspension (PSS9s, RS sways, LW alloys, R compound tires), and I've done the seat/harness bit (5pts, fixed buckets). I'm skipping the Big Reds (for now at least thanks to full satisfaction with stock brakes using Pagid Orange pads) and moving on to the engine compartment where the slope gets REAL slippery.

So I'm interested to understand what folks generally think is the preferred path to more power. As my title suggests, the constraint is that said upgrade should take into account all around driveability as I'm looking for the best compromise of power increase, streetability, reliability, (and the need to pass emissions too!).

So with those caveats in mind, all opinions are appreciated!

I think bang for buck would be to trade it in for a 997!

Not sure I can afford that much bang... unless the gods are smiling on me with a certain PCA Club car next month!

While not an "engine upgrade" per se, you left out regearing the transmission.

LWF is a lot of bang for the buck. But nothing beats a turbo. But just remember, just because you have a turbo does not mean it ends there. You have a gateway to even bigger and better mods for more HP. It never ends. And we all LOVE IT

I guess I would have included the transmission upgrade path. For a NA engine, chip LWFW, RS cam's and some lightening, coupled with a re-geared box would equate to alot of fun.

boat tailed cases, knife edged crank, balancing, larger valves, multi angle valve job with some port cleanup (except exhaust), cams reground, rod bolts, mechanical rockers, ECU work, moly coat (or the like) piston skirts and valve stems, ceramic coating of the pistion tops, ti retainers, or just gut the car

Yup, I'd re-gear; it'll make a significant difference in seat-of-the-pants feel and acceleration.

Get a totaled TT and stuff it's engine in it.

That's my plan to make a badass narrowbody 993 once it's time for an re-build.

Oh, I'd love 993TT running gear in my car with rear wheel drive, I would be soooooo happy. Even happier if I could manage it with no rear wing and the intercoolers stuffed into the rear wheel wells somehow. Yummy thoughts. Time for day-dreaming...

Get's my vote too. If you are keeping this car. Besides I thought only '95s could be chipped? (w/o a lot of work)
If you go w/the Turbo for street/track the mods start over again. Suspension, turbos, etc.

Any 993 can be chipped albeit w/differences in method, cost & improvement.

Hello Chris,

My C4S has been re-geared and I really like the response!

I'd invest in seat time at the track. Power will help, but to get a lot faster you need to learn to drive better. I've seen plenty of 993's get passed by well driven spec miatas and turbos passed by NA cars.

Yes, I've regeared my 993 (I would not do it again) and done the LWF, PPS9s and RS sways. The suspension work makes a big difference for not too much money. The other mods (gearing, 3.8L and others) I don't think are really worth the money unless you have the skill already and it's required to be competative in a race.
