Alloy Wheel Repair - Pictures
Well, after acquiring my new-to-me C4 Cab about a month ago, I've done a few things to improve her appearance. She was in great shape for her age, probably as a result of her having relatively low miles (25k). However, she had a few "blemishes" that really stood out.
One that really got under my skin was the curb rash on both rear wheels. To boot, whomever balanced the wheels the last couple of times put the weights on the outside rim of the wheels rather than hiding them inside the wheels. In a few cases, the black adhesive was still glaring at me like a huge tarnished area. Yuck.
Well, I had a local company that specializes in alloy wheel repair come out and whip the wheels into shape. A couple of guys that I work with sang their praise. Essentially, they (using a mobile service truck) are able to remove/repair alloy wheel imperfections on site for a reasonable cost. For the two rear wheels, they charged $105 each to repair all of the curb rash and a couple of blemishes on the spokes. This includes building up the effected areas, sanding, blending, and respraying the entire wheels. On the two front wheel, they cleaned them up to the same quality/condition as the rear wheels for $20 each.
I also had them restraighten one of the rear wheels that was out-of-round. It measured 75 thousandths out of round and they got it down to 15 thousandths--well within balancing tolerances.
After getting the wheels balanced, I am VERY happy. Here are some before and afters (Tip: use the valve stem as a reference to locate where the blemishes were):

Left Rear After
Right Rear Before
Right Rear After
Left Front Before

Great Jeff...those curb scars are a real pain...I have a tiny spot on my front right wheel and I'd love to locate a similar company in South Florida in order to fix it...I know a couple of places but I don't trust them to leave the car there...hard to get good service around here...
Congrats...
Congrats...

As far as the lugs go, you're definitely right. One thing I am quickly learning is once you do one thing, it will lead to more things to do. For instance, I had the wheels refinished and now I ~have~ to replace the lugs and respray the rotor hoods. I installed the HID lights and now I ~have~ to get new bulbs for the highs, fogs, and front markers.
