996 is faster in a straight line - more power and much better gear ratios. 993 could be better in turns depending on which suspension you're talking about. The 996's are generally turning faster lap times (with equal mods), but the experience is quite different...

It's possible to chip a '97-98 NA 993. There's quite a bit of threads on this in the archives (Search). For the '96 the solution is to buy a '97 brain w/chip and install in a '96. For the horsepower gained (maybe 20hp??) it's probably not worth the ~ $3k cost. Steve Weiner (Rennsport Systems) is a good source for this, he offers this service. He's a Sponser for RL, his contact info should be readily available. I'm no expert, just relaying the info I recall when I looked into this for my past '96.

Yep - I'm certainly quicker in my 993 than my brother in his 996 C4 Cab (tip)

The 996 hauls ***, especially the 2002 and later...it has a wider track, I believe a slightly longer wheel base and a lower coefficient of drag....BUT, inside it looks to me like a Lexus and outside, I am confused as to whether a Boxster is coming up behind me or is it a 996? But, I believe it DOES come with a cup holder.
They seem to be depreciating nicely...so you can get one on the cheap. Suggest the 2002 and later, more HP!
