HI
This whole thing was a series of unfortunate events. I just bought this car in June. The headliner was droopy. I took it in for repair and they were charging me $80 to fix. I got a call letting me know it was not fixable and the headliner needed to be replaced- ~$795. This droopyness was ruining my driving experience- so I told them to go ahead. After 3 days- they took the top off but were not able to put on the new headliner. I got the car back with the old headliner and now the entire top was droopy. Furthermore- they had put masking tape on the rear window- which caused the plastic to bubbler all around the perimeter and right through the center (horizontally). The owner volunteered to replace the top. The new top came with a new headliner. This time i managed to get instructions for replacing a top from the Porsche manual. this helped along with providing photos from 2 other 993's in the area.
So- I was charged the $795. However- if we could have avoided this learning experience - the repair to my droopy headliner would have only cost $80.

and they

also- just to close out the top down survey- here are photos of the 2 tops showing the cross bar position. In V1 the crossbar is outside of the pocket. In V2- the crossbar is inside the pocket- where i guess it should be.

I would think the headliner was "droopy" was because PO did not use the tonneau cover causing headliner to flap under speed.

While we are on the subject of tops...the owner's manual says not to leave the top down for extended periods of time (~3 days) to avoid wrinkling etc. The only think I hate more than the time it takes me to install the tonneau cover is driving with the top up. Anyone leaving the top down for extended time? Any issues?

V2 for a 1995. I recently discovered their are a pin on either side and it was starting to put a hole in the RAG. It is all patched up. Lucky, I caught it.

There are straps that should be pulling the RAG to stop it from getting caught in the pins.

That's a design flaw in the MY94/95 993 which fixed in latter tops. Unless you retrofit the elastic straps now, or manually pull the canvas away from the pins every time you open the top, it is inevitable that you will get these holes/tears.

In response to polver's question I have left my top down under the toneau cover for as long as six months. I put a terry cloth pad in where the window folds so it does not abrade on itself. But having the roof down for such a long period of time doesn't seem to have much long term affect. A little bit of a rinkle when you first put the top up but stretches to normal within a day.

JDP993,
That is what I WANTED to hear. For all, has anyone had any luck with those top down covers? In the same spirit of laziness in which I didn't want to install/remove the tonneau cover every time I went out, I certainly don't want to leave my interior open to the elements when I park somewhere. I was hoping for a quicker alternative that would protect my interior from the sun, birds, sap, and an unexpected rain shower. Do they work well? Are they anymore convenient than putting the top up?
