let me also add that I don't get to cords on purpose.. and it has only happened twice in my last 8 years of going to DEs and autocrosses (now exclusively track events)..

I usually replace the tires before they probably need to be just because that is my comfort factor and I notice worse lap times when there are too many heat cycles in the tires....

I ordered mine too. Is there any shaving or prep or certain amount of driving that should be done to these before going to a track event?

i ordered some as well and they are supposed to be shaved for dry usage, or used as is for tracking in the wet (they said damage can occur if you don't shave and use them dry).

If you intend to drive these tires on the street, with a few track days thrown in, I would not shave them. I just ran mine (unshaved) at Thunderhill, and they handled great (120 miles of track use w/ 2 1/2 hour drive to-and-from the track). Once they are hot, they stick very well. If you are ONLY using them at the track, then shave away. Otherwise, you will get almost almost no mileage out them as a street tire.

PS- I just received my new set of rears from Tirerack- for future usage.

Hey Mike,
I think you would need to get them "broken in" a bit before subjecting them to really hard cornering. As with any tire, a certain amount of wear would be good before crankin them up. But what the hell do I know. Just my .02 cents. p.s. the last time I took brand new tires to the track, I chewed the crap out of them... not good. Even warped the tread in the center of the front tires. .
BTW. are you joining us on the Ventura Autofest run???
p.s. did the HID upgrade like yours. Stay away from me with all your upgrades... not good for the wallet.

I drove my 1st set unshaved in the dry and never ran into any chunking problems or anything like that... they lasted me 9 track DE days before cording on the inside (not the outside)

Any thoughts on the pressures these tires like to run for autocrossing? For track work?

I started at @ 30lbs. cold, and hot they ran a consistant 38 lbs. I am not an expert racer or anything like that, but they handled well for my abilities at that pressure.

Most tires I've ever used on the track(no matter the make) have been set at somwhere betwen 26-30 lbs cold. I really don't like to see anything over 36 lbs hot, any more and I've found they go away quicker. Just my .02 cents after many laps.

I was running mine at 32/34 psi hot per Viken's suggestion. I recently decided that I like the handling more in my car if I run around 34/38 psi. Feels much less squirelly.

I got 10 track days plus about 3,000 miles using 32/34 pressures.

Yeah but thats hot, what do they start out cold? Remember, you have all that extra down force adding to the pressures on the tires with the splitters and rear wing, which heats 'em up more and raises the pressures.
