After searching all the posts about folks losing there Key Code and being able to go to the dealer and have them call Porsche, I can't find anything about the dealer having to plug into the OSB. Sunset Porsche wants to charge me the 95/hr rate to hook my car up and send the info via computer to Atlanta. All of the posts I have read say that the key code can be obtained from a dealer with the VIN and proper id. I have a 1997 993 and bought an extra remote and want to program it myself. Am I getting the shaft? Thanks
yeah, they shouldn't have to connect to osb. I one time went in to double check my key code and so he took my vin or some number and ran it through a computer and pulled up my info. Took less than 5 min.
I also just recently obtained my key code and radio code from a local dealer. The service manager was able to obtain the key code and radio code by entering the VIN into his computer. No OBD hookup (or even looking at the car) required.
Yeah, how do you spell "Bull**it?? That's what the dealer is feeding you. Cut keys and Immobilizer and radio codes can be supplied by the Vin # alone. Immobilizer code is not the same as the radio (theft) code.
I think for the 996's and on you have to connect the PST (Porsche System Tester) as the code is stored in the electronics... but not for the 993's.... Call another dealer!
I left my car to repalce the wiring harness (Porsche recall) at "Champion Porsche" and they did retrieve my radio code for free by my vin#...don't know about the keyless entry system though but it looks like the same process to retrieve...by VIN#!
Thanks everyone for your responses. Sunset Porsche in Portland does not get any more of my business! I knew it. I will look for another dealer, probably the one I buy my new Porsche from....THX
Hmmm too bad. Sunset is the very best and least expensive place to buy parts. They are great. Only 15% above cost, can't find a better price anywhere. Their parts dept is top notch.
I agree with the comment about the parts dept. Jeff and Phil are great and they always have what I need or order it propmtly. I spoke with another manager today. The reason they want to hook the car up is to verify the original immobilizer is the one in the car. Too many times (even read in the forum) people end up trying a key code on a car with a different immobilizer and get very frustated at the dealers expense. I am bringing the car in tomorrow. Thanks for everyones responses....
