Default Looking for auto insurance., suggestions?

Basic coverage. Not a daily driver, no track time, just a Sunday driver.
Thanks,
Kent

Kent,

Good question-the rates are getting to be rediculous in the Valley of the Sun.

Do you know about the drive this Sunday that Patrick Connor is organizing-and will you be coming?

Kent -

I have used USAA for the past 15 years or so. You need to be a "military family"--which is pretty broad by their definitions.

Who's Eligible?
Active duty officers and enlisted personnel
National Guard, Reserve officers and enlisted personnel
Officer candidates in commissioning programs(Academy, ROTC, OCS & OTS)
Former spouses and adult children of USAA members

They are non-profit, so any premiums that don't pay out in a year is "refunded" through dividends to all of the members. I've had some claims over the years and there has never been a hiccup or issue.

I use State Farm and have been very happy with them. You get good rates if you are a good driver [meaning that if you are eligible for the State Farm Mutual Insurance coverage]. I am an unmarried male under 25, and pay $2300 a year right now [EXPENSIVE], but once I turn 25, my rate is going down to $1100/year. That is pretty cheap I think for a daily driver 993...

I saved a ton of money by switching to Geico, almost $1300 for two cars, a primary residence, some investment property and a few other additions. Previous carrier? State Farm.

firemans fund..by far the best and they base their premiums on replacment value, not book. Car gets stolen or totalled and you know in advance what you will get, no negioations.

GMAC insurance - $610/year. It is not stated value coverage however.

I switched from 21st Century when they wanted $2200 for the 993 when I bought it 4 years ago, as Hagarty doesn't cover newer cars. I moved all the cars to GMAC.

I was not happy with Leland West some years ago over a wreck on my '86 coupe, so I went to Hagarty for less money and no mileage reporting hassle.

americanhobbyist very cheap rates, stated value, no milage limits, but you need to prove that its not you daily driver. I'm paying $900/yr ish for 97TT. State farm had me at $2300! My chevelle is under $200/yr!

Try Amico or Progressive too. Seems a lot depends on where you live, driving style, age, history.

AAA has been good to me. 1500 per year for my 993 and 1200 per for my 2006 Ridgeline. That alone with a DMV service in house makes worth it for me. Good luck.

I have Allstate here in AZ. Wife and I have squeaky-clean records. Insure everything... house, car, etc. I then went and priced the auto insurance with USAA, Geico, Leland, etc and confirmed that my insurance rates is still the best.

Everyone has a different answer, so it looks like you should look around.

Al, Kent knows about Sunday. I hope he makes it.
