Thinking about doing the unthinkable

Yes, it would be a lonely garage without a P-car. The wife is expecting a new Range Rover Sport to take the place of the X5. Seeing some of the new gadgetry on cars these days makes me want to change as well. I'm not on the list for an M5 yet, so it would probably be some time before I could get my hands on one. I do have a guy I know at the Austin dealer, who might be able to pull some strings for me -- we'll see. The E39 540 has been a great car for me - you won't be disappointed if that's what you end up with.

I would imagine the list would be quite long, but as far as I know, they are selling at MSRP. I will definitely make sure I have a committed car before selling.

The SMG is what I'm after. I was considering an E39 M5 until I realized they were all manual. Driving a manual in Houston traffic is no fun at all. I have a friend expecting a new M5 in October, so I'll be able to check it out and see if it's for me. At this point, it seems to be exactly what I want.

I'll be on the track in something. You'll need another driver for the Cup for upcoming enduros, right?
Thanks for all the input guys. I will post some pictures some time this weekend.

Matt, I was going through the same thought process a few months ago. I sold my 98 Arena Red S, bone stock with no modifications and 65k miles through a Used Porsche consignment place here, I got $47k out of the deal and they probably sold it for low 50's. Your car has more mod's and lower miles so the mid 50's is the right range.
I also decided to go for a 4 door with power and decided on an E55 vs. the M5, loads of power, 469 HP, 516 lb ft of torque, 0-60 time of 4.5 seconds. It is a very nice 4 door and when you floor it, it goes like a bat out of hell.
Good luck.

The E55 is no doubt a nice car. The styling is top notch indeed, although I can't help but prefer BMW's for their handling.
On another note, I drove my car to dinner this evening. If I do decide to sell, it's going to be really hard to let her go! Maybe the M5 list will be too long and I'll just have to keep her.
OK, here she is. Her name is Sascha, and she's mostly clean. The front bumper and hood could use some paintwork, but everywhere else she's perfect.

I'm with the guys that say you'll be sorry if you part with that beauty of a C2S. It is prefectly tricked out, and all the electronic gizmos won't make up for this unique car. Low to mid 50s is my guess, to someone who appreciates the options and the mods, and who isn't scared off by some track days. My thoughts on tracking a car is that it indicates the car is in great shape, and only the brake pads and tires really take a beating.. aside from a few extra stone chips. It should be seen as a positive, not a negative (assuming pads and tires are now in good shape). Keep it.
Matt, say it aint so... it's gonna be different out at the track without you and your nice 993, on those rare occasions make it out there anymore. I hope you decide to keep it, if I had a 993 I would keep it forever, like land inside the loop they aren't making anymore. You should have no problem selling the car IMO, it's a nice one.
