Default another P0300 random misfire code

Sorry if this topic has been beat to death...

I have 92k on my 96 993. The DMF and clutch were replaced at 86k due to the CEL and misfires with a rough idle. The codes were cleared and off (although the car still ran rough at idle) until yesterday. I was driving around the city and got in and out of the car a few times, starting and stopping the engine. It came on out of the blue when I started it. Today I checked it with an obdII scanner and up came P0300, mulriple random misfires. I called the dealer who replaced the DMF and clutch (6k miles ago) to see if it'd be under their warranty or Porsche's for that matter. I booked an appointment for next week and hopefully it's covered.

Any other ideas on what it could be? Just before the DMF and clutch were replaced, they did the plugs, caps, rotors, wires, and belts. If i had to guess I couldn't. I just hope they take care of it. I looked at the back of the reciept and it states a warranty of 24 months and unlimited mileage on the repair.

With that kind of mileage I would say your overdue for the dreaded SAI problem which usually requires a top end rebuild. I don't know if that problem shows a "misfire" code but if you haven't done a top end rebuild it could have something to do with it.

I'm certainly no expert and I'm sure you will get many other opinions.

Good luck,

Mike

Hi Mike,

I'm not sure if the SAI has anything to do with misfires. As per my reading on the SAI issue, it's only a factor while warming up, before the cats get hot enough. That and i believe there is a different code for the SAI (P0410). Would anyone know if all the 993s need the SAI done?

God, I hope not!!!

I don't think you have a SAI problem, either. Hopefully just some sensor going bad.

Good luck... let us know what the shop finds.

From what I can tell it's just a matter of time. I have 61K on my car, if I can get to 75K I would be ok with that.

Hey Dan,

I'm not sure if they changed that belt. I know they changed some belts but i can't find the reciept for it. When I get there I'll ask.

just dropped the car off at the dealership. now gotta wait for the phone call. they did give me a 2005 boxster to drive home, fun, but it's a tip. the car hauls a$$ for an automatic but shifting through the gears with a clutch is way better.

Ok, so I just got off the phone with service at the dealership. My P0300 "random misfire" code happens to be nothing that can be repaired- rather only reset. They said that there are no other faults stored and that the one and only "random misfire" code came on because i was low on fuel and tried to accelerate causing the misfire. It kind of makes sense to me since the cel did come on at the same time my fuel light came on. They said that if it was the flywheel- like it was 6k miles ago- the computer would have had a whole lot of faults stored and my car only had one. I figure it's the truth because if there is a problem with the flywheel they can charge it to the mannufacturer since it's a factory part and make the house a bunch of loot. Either way, I'm glad that my pocket is unaffected by this cel and my car didn't have to be taken apart.

The one thing that does bother me is I thought that for a misfire fault to be stored, it had to be recurring and not just once. Can someone chime in on this?
