What's a good first Porsche
I really like the 993 and I was wondering if this would be a good first Porsche?
Tell me why or why not. Or let me know which one is a good first buy.

Depends on your budget, how you plan to drive and what is expected from the car.
If budget is low there is nothing wrong with starting off with 924s, or 944. Bottom line you need to drive the Porsche's that bring you enjoyment and go from there.

Hi Doug...the 993 is the ultimate Porsche...the last of Ferry Porsche's era...if you can afford one, go for it and it will be your first and last Porsche! If your budget is around or under $20K, I'd get the best 911 Carrera from 1987 to 1989 with the 3.2 engine and G50 tranny...
Good luck...

If you have less than $10K, I suggest looking into a nice 944/951.
If you've got up to $15K, go get yourself a sweet 911SC coupe
If you can swing up to $23K, get yourself in the seat of a '87-89 Carrera.
If you've got somewhere in the neighborhood of $25-$30K, your just looking for a weekend toy, and your life insurance is up to date, go look at a 930 (turbo).
Now, if you've got between $30-$35k, go get yourself a nice '95 993 C2/C4.
For $39-$55K, you will find yourself in prime widebody 993 territory. For $60K plus, you are in the 993 Twin Turbo arena, and I then hate you. Anything more than that, and you can have two 993s.
Note: I skipped the 996 because I did not note in your signature that you were into hair styling.
Just kidding guys!

I'm looking at spending about 30-35K. and I just want it for a weekend car only.
Thanks guys I knew I went to the right place for this question.
What do you guys think about the Boxster? I notice the resale is low.

Do you want a "Porsche" or do you want one of the all time greatest sports car icons that demands to be driven, ogled, and is going to cost you emotionally, physically, financially, and...?
Although it may be your 1st Porsche, think about which car really grabs you... and also the reasons why... then I think your decision will be easy thereafter. If it's within you budget, just go for the very best condition-wise you can find... Boxster or otherwise. If you lust after a Boxster, it's less likely a raw seat-of-the-pants experience like the pre-996 911s will tickle your fancy as your only Porsche. If you like the Boxster, go for the Boxster! But if you relish the rawness of a pre-996 911, it's unlikely the Boxster will ever "do it for you".

Yah I wasn't impressed with the Boxster my Audi TT was faster. But I have always loved the 993 and the sound of the air-cooled Porsches just make my hair stand up. I'll never forget that sound my Dads 914 -6 use to have. It was mint condition then he sold it to a collector for $13K I never would have thought they where worth that much.

Boxsters are great cars and they handle extremely well. The 993 is more "visceral" as others have said; I like that. I'd prefer not to have a car I see over and over again on every drive; another strike against the Boxster. You can get some fantastic deals on them, and it is a lot of car for the money. I gave Boxsters an awful lot of consideration but am very glad I went with the 993. That'd be my recommendation for most other folks too.

For $30 - $35K without question a 993. It's a work of art without peer. A '97 C2 coupe that I just got a few weeks ago is my first P-car. In fact it's my first 'high performance' car.
