Unbelievable! Insane Spark Plugs From Dealer
I am in process of DIY spark plugs change for my 96 993. Shop aroung Pepboys and Autozone for OEM Bosch Spark Plugs FR5DTC but to no avail. Hence, call one of the Porsche Dealer for part and price check. Holy s%$t, he gave me a price for $21.20 per plugs. Total $254.40 for 12 plugs not include tax. I am politely thanks him for the info and hang up as fast as I could. Unbelievable! What are these dealers thinking?

Just kidding, I wouldn't recommend only getting 11... on the record at least.

All joking aside, I was told by my dealer that a huge number of 993s have had only 11 changed due to the difficulty of the 12th plug. Aside from removing a bunch of stuff and engine tin, I didn't find that 12th to be so painful.

www.europeanautomotive.com has them for just over $3 each and free shipping (as long as you order at least $50 worth of stuff) for NA 993

Linh,
Did you ask the guys at Autozone if they could order the sparkplugs for you? Nobody local to me carried them in stock but it only took 1 day for the local parts place to get them in for around $3.50/each. The aftermarket Porsche part suppliers buy from the exact same distributors as the generic local-to-you auto shops. So not only is it quicker to order local but there are also usually no shipping charges.

Troy- I highly recommend against Denso Iridium. My gf had one lose its entire tip in her engine (and Audi S4, stage 3). No thanks. I thinks the pics are still on audiworld somewhere.

[QUOTE=TheOtherEric]Too true. I've always heard the stories as well. I bought my current 993 this year, and when I had the plugs changed, I too found 1 different than the rest. Wasn't a dealer but an independant in Greenville SC that did it.
Yeah, my dealear was suggesting that most independant shops skip the 12th. plug. When I got my car, it was at 48,000 KM (about 30,000 miles) and never had a plug change yet so at least I know that it's been done now that I installed 12 of them myself.
