Hello,
I just wanted to introduce myself and thank all of you for the wealth of information found here. I've spent a few weeks reading through the various Rennlist fora and finally joined tonight.
I am a life-long Porsche fanatic, with a strong emphasis on the 911 model. My father drove a 356 Super 90 when I was born and somehow instilled the love of all things Porsche in me at an early age. The dozens of factory Porsche racing posters that completely lined my bedroom walls years ago are still with me today, although safely stored for future use.
I have just started my search for a '95 - '98 Carrera and hope to fill this void by the end of the year. Although I would prefer an "S" variant, a standard narrow body will do. I have decided on Polar Silver with a black interior, and hope to locate a full-leather version. Manual transmission is a must, as are fairly low miles (<40k). I am hoping to find a beautiful, unmolested, one-owner example. My initial plans for the car will be a slight reduction in ride height (PSS9, H&R?) and a set of 18" '02 rims (with the proper offset). Other than that, I intend to learn the car inside and out before undertaking further measures.
Mark L. - thank you for the inspiration, and for sealing my fate!

Hey Andrea !!
Welcome to the board.. I wish you the best of luck with your search, be prepared to spend 3-6 months to find your pcar.
- some tips you are going to get anyway, I will give now.
1) be somewhat flexible - be prepared to give up certain things and determine what is most important to you. Would you buy a Artic Silver? a Car with 50K miles? See where I am going with this.
- I believe that every single person on this board gave up something they wanted to get behind the wheel of a 993, some it was $$$, some color, some mileage, books and records, I can go on and on.. keep an open mind and be prepared to TRAVEL and $$$ if you find that perfect car. Most certainley, it will be on the other end of the country.
- You say you want an unmolested car but you plan to install H&R (good choice, I am having mine installed as we speak.) Does that mean you would not buy a car that already has it. I would guess any 993 owner on Rennlist has some type of suspension, or desperately wants one. And this is the board of people, in the know !!
- Don't be afraid to ask people on this board to look or test drive a car for you if it is out of your immediate reach. Most people on this board love to help and can help save you a lot of legwork. We also enjoy the opportiunity to evaluate cars and share info with fellow Rennlisters, I wish I knew this earlier in my search, I would have made better use of it. Of course, that is not a subsitute for a proper PPI, which you know is a must !
-Lastly.. Of course, I am biased. Go with "S" once you go FAT BOOTY you never go back !!!
-- Start flame now guys, lol ! --
Good luck
B
oh, also, don't be too quick to dismiss a car with a RS Lightweight Flywheel and RS Clutch.. As these cars are getting more mature in their life cycle, wear and tear items like clutch and dual mass flywheel are being swapped with better (more sporty) and less expensive parts. I do understand you not wanting a modded monster, but before you rule out a car, you might be surprised the improvements the previous owner made, that you certainley now being a Rennlister poster would probably make as well.

Good luck and keep us posted of your progress.
Welcome.
I agree with B-Line too. Choosing a color as a priority to technical excellence could be a very expensive mistake.

Andreas,
You've definitely come to the right place. Ask as many questions as you can and don't forget to use the search engine, too. There's an abundance of knowledge here. It's how most of us learned our cars.

Everyone,
Thank you for the replies and PMs. I certainly feel welcome.
I have been using the Search function quite a bit and will definitely place the technical aspects of a car before the color. Whether Polar Silver or Arctic, I think these will be the most forgiving colors to deal with. As I've seen others say on here before, I absolutely love SY, yet I question whether I would actually want to own the color. GR has always been one of my favorites, but there is something simple yet sophisticated about silver.
The madness begins. Or continues, if you ask the wife...

Andreas,
Are you hot? Oh, you're a guy...
Just messing with you.
You know I'm happy to help out in any way I can. I'm not sure I'd get too hung up on the one-owner thing or some excellent samples will slip through your fingers. Proper servicing and healthy PPI results should yield a good car.
And boring, ol' polar silver/black shouldn't be too hard to find.
Welcome, pal!

Easy there, Tiger! I almost forgot to mention how nice your hair looks this week, Mark.
I'll probably relax my one-owner requirement as the search warrants.

Found a car for you already! I'll take a set of RSRs as a finders fee (just kidding). http://www.truspeedmotorcars.com/inv...e_stock_no=494
PM Trojanman as he is the most recent rennlister who has purchased from Truspeed. Also search Truspeed.
Good luck.

That would satisfy on almost all counts. Does Truspeed have pricing available anywhere, or did I just miss it?
Oops - just found the car on Ebay - 5 days left and sitting at $21...
I would still like an 'S' version, but we'll see how that goes. Thank you for the sleuthing!

IMHO if you really want a "S" I'd make THAT priority #1. As I'm sure you're aware diligent and up to date maintenance is really valued more highly with most here than being a one owner car.
Be patient. Wait for the right one. Besides now you have the lots of people looking for you.
AND more than happy to help you spend your money. LOL
