Default Thinking about selling 1996 C4S

It may be that time. Family wants a pool. 993 may have to go. I really have no idea what my car should be worth though. Can I get some opinions please?

The car:

1996 993 C4S, Black paint, black interior. Has a turbo tail on it - also have the factory motorized decklid. 48,000 miles. Car looks awesome from a distance of 5 feet, but after 10 years, the front fascia could probably use a re-paint. (I've actually thought about getting the car repainted, but don't know if the value is better with a brand new paint job, or with all original paint). No accidents ever. 45K service done. Does have the beginnings of an oil leak - I forget which part the dealer said it was, but I'm guessing $1000 to fix it. Leak is minor enough that I've never had to add oil yet - but it does drip on the garage floor a little.

The car was pretty basic as far as C4S's go. HAs motorsound, and a VERY expensive aftermarket stereo system. (Original Becker radio is still there. No additional holes were cut into the car. Everything can be returned to factory condition. Aftermarket stereo total is in excess of 5K. Probably worth $50 to a new buyer though.

I've never even considered selling, so I haven't paid much attention to the car's value. I do know that Excellence magazine/Edmunds/Kelley Blue Book all seem completely out of line with any I can find advertised anywhere. I don't need top dollar, but I don't want to hold a fire sale either.

Any opinions on a fair value I should ask? How about the oil? Fix it first? How about the paint? Refresh it, or leave it original? The interior is nearly flawless. (Minor rubmarks on driver's seat only.)

Thanks in advance for any help/opinions.

Ok, I'll start. Sell for $46k-$47k. Ask a little more.

You definitely need to figure out the source of oil leak first. If it's a lower valve cover gasket, it's a $40 gasket and a couple hours time (DIY). Worst case, it could be a cylinder thru-bolt or such requiring an engine tear-down ($3500-$5000). You don't want to have to haggle with a buyer over this stuff; just get it fixed.

Keep the paint original. If you do respray, just take LOTS of pics beforehand so you can prove WHY you did it. And I agree, the stereo is worth nothing.

Fix the oil leak, DON'T PAINT IT, and sell the stereo stuff here.

i think that respraying front nose is a pretty common and accepted practice, even in the concours circles.... of course, best to take lots of before pics, make sure reputable shop, etc.... but i personally wouldnt think that it would detract... at this point, probably not a big deal either way...

i would think $45k 'ish....

Fix the leak.

I doubt that you will recoup the cost of the respray.

My experience on value is quite recent (March purchase) ... I suggest it is worth about $42K with the stereo and $41K without it, assuming you fix the oil leak and the tires, pads and other wearables have some thread on them.

Good luck,

My guess $44-46 if no major leak problems show up. Repaint the front end if you think it really needs it - MHO

Thanks for all the helpful input gentlemen.

Someone mentioned tires. My tires are BFGoodrich g-force/TA KD with about 3,000 miles on them (about 18 months old?) They look very good (and they are VERY sticky!)

I live in Indiana. Talk about rare - my C4S is the only C4S I've ever seen in person out here. It's not like all of you out on the coasts.

Everyone's pricing comments seem very fair and realistic.

I think the dealer did mention the lower valve cover gasket. Is so, I'll just do that myself.

Thanks again for all of your interest and input. Everyone has been VERY helpful, and I appreciate it.
