Wow! I like your approach, PNog. Probably faster and more effective than anything else. I guess you still would want to blow it all out with compressed air form the top after you have run the cable from below to clear out the passages and then replace the check valve.
I'm not convinced that doing a valve job to "cure" the problem is necessary or effective (unless you have a bad oil consumption problem). It'd be interesting to know how many of those cars that have had their valve guides replaced have seen the CEL light return due to the SAI issue.
