OK, how does a whole get ripped in the upper engine air duct?
I just popped the hood and noticed a pretty good sized hole ripped right on top of the soft plastic air duct. Hard to describe better where and how it looks, so when I get the energy in the morning, I'll post a picture.
No sign of other damage. The hole does not look to have been cut; so appears to be the result of damage. How does something like this just happen? How hard is it to replace?

same thing happened to me, not sure what caused it, heat and age perhaps? Easy to replace, but the little rubber duct wasn't cheap. $50 w/ shipping from Pelican.

Like a rock, or? Wouldn't the FOD do other damage at the same time? Especially way up on top; could kinda understand damage in the underside (I've removed the engine belly pan).

10 year old rubber subject to a boat load of heat and vibration - it just wore out! IIRC you don't have to remove anything except the few bolts that hold it on. Also, as far as Porsche parts go, $50 is cheap (IMO) .

Just heat and time is what kills these. Shut the car off, heat rises and soaks everything in its path.. Also, keep in mind effective airflow volume is reduced with this -open- part of the circuit.

Another reason to replace soon is that your interior will start smelling like Mobil 1 when the heater comes on ("Oil leak? Yes, sir, they all do that...").
30 minutes job. Make sure you get the correct 993 part (993.xx.xx.xx). First time I ordered from Pelican, they sent me a 964 part which looks very similar until you try to install it.

i agree the damage is probably caused by heat, rather than FOD. i need to replace mine (again). anyone have the correct part number or a description of the offending part?
