Fender Stone-guard question.

I just ordered factory arctic silver gravel guards to replace mine and will give it a try in about two weeks when they show up.

I think the factory guards are a little thicker than the Invinca Shield. One of mine took a serious hit at some point in its 30k mi life and has a ~3" long gouge in it. I wonder if the thinner Invinca product would have saved the fender like the original guard did but it is hard to say.

I agree I wouldn't go naked- especially if you track the car. I routinely replace mine every three years. Once they've been on too long they are a real bear to get off. The trick is as mentioned to use a heat gun on low setting just to loosen the glue. To avoid air bubbles in the new ones be sure to use a little soap and water mix in a spray bottle to "float" the new ones in place and squeege down smooth.

I had my original ones replaced about a month ago. Mine were pretty beat up and looked bad. Also, mine were the original smaller version with less flare up toward the rear (less coverage). I got the newer larger ones and they look great. On a black car, you just can't run without them!

I have 12000 miles on my white cab after a repaint. I did not install the paint guards on the rear fenders because I did not like the look. After 2 years and 12000 miles my front bumper is pitted and looks bad. I plan on having it repainted and the 3M cover applied to it. The rear fenders don't have a mark or pit on them. Go figure.

I agree with Scott, they're not that hard to replace. I did mine recently with no issues.

I just removed my rear stone guards. I would say they came off pretty easy. I used 3m adhesive remover and goo gone to clean up any glue residue and then wiped down with alcohol and water mixture. I didn't even heat them up. Car was in garage, a hot garage. I have the Invinca replacements but I have to cut them because of the vent in the rear 1/4 panels. I will use the olds as templates to cut out, but now have to get some install materials. I will let you know how the install goes.

I removed my factory stone guards myself. Thirty minutes per side total. Start by letting the sun warm (heat) everything up. Then peel. Then use 3M General Purpose Adhesive Remover to remove residual adhesive. It will not harm the paint. Wait a day or two for the adesive remove to completely evaporate from the paint (advice from body shop) the do the reinstall.

I used Invincishield on my glacier white C4S and they yellowed. Invincishield sent me new ones and told me to use distilled water for the install. I did. They yellowed. I decided yesterday that I'm ordering new, colored ones from the stealership. Live and learn.

Scott - Sunset has the factory gravel guards for about $75 ea. May be a bit less than your "stealership".

I wont have problems with them yellowing....lol...I drive a Speed Yellow car! Let them yellow all they want! HA!

Adam - I just yanked mine off and Brunhilde is "naked".

I thought it was going to take a couple hours based on others experience and warnings from my dealer, but all I did was give her a quick bath then pull them off. I had my trusty can of 3M adhesive remover ready but there was no residue at all remaining on the fender. I cleaned up the edges where there was a little wax buildup with a clay bar and some Griot's speed shine.

The funny thing was that one was clear and the other silver. I guess the PO had one replaced at some point. The clear one had yellowed a bit but the silver one was a bit more dull from all of the stone hits.
