Default Steering Problem - Mushy Feel in front end ????

Just got back from a great drive today. Car was running beautifully and TIGHT UNTIL all of the sudden it felt loose and mushy in the front end on the way home. I realized this quickly on some fast corners and slowed down. Wheel feel is very sloppy and definately in the steering from what I can tell.

Anybody experienced this? Could it be a bushing on the steering rack, loose sway bar? I am not yet familier with the steering assembly but am soon to be educated one way or the other.

Checked all wheel lugs, power steering fluid and am tired from long day of driving so I haven't looked any further figuring I would start with the experts @ Rennlist.

In addition to the possible suspects you mention, A-arm bushing could be worn.

Have you checked your tire inflations???

I had a similar experience and found that I had picked up a nail... :^(

Where did you drive ??? J/K Seems like time for another NorCal drive.

Regards

Tire pressures are all OK. Just got new rears. Car ran GREAT all day until I noticed this mushiness.

Last minute Run to Mendocino via Lake Sonoma/Stewerts Point Road - HWY 1 and back through Boonville on 128 - This is a great loop. Jim, I know these roads and lots of options, anytime you feel you're ready for a NorCal Rumble Drive let me know and I'll work to put it together meeting in Napa Valley. We did 275 miles today from Napa which is a great ride but not too far.

I'll get some photos up on another thread here shortly.

Eric, I could not have joined you today, but hwy 1 and 128 in that area are some of the best roads. I'll be ready for next time.

Thanks Eric, what a great drive yesterday! It was really nice visiting the farm and seeing the family. Hope everything goes well with your steering diagnosis. Should I find out anything I will let you know. Hopefully you will not be replacing the steering rack. Talk to you this week.

Another thought: tire belt coming loose.

Eric, it should be fairly obvious based on the immediate change you felt. Get'er up on stands and let us know what you find.

Jim and No-cal company.....YES, it's time!

Have a good look at both sway bars, and their droplinks. Let us know what you find..

I would also check the tie rods. I had a mushy steering feeling once only to find out that one of my tie rods had busted.

I'm with Chris... I bet one of the sway bar links came loose. Hopefully it's a simple fix, whatever it is.

Good luck...

Sounds possibly like a sway bar. I had a broken mounting for a while and as soon as I got it fixed my CD palyer started jumping after every big bump!

Good luck.

Cheers,

David
