Default Chroming Wheels

There is a company out of LA does chroming of wheels. I dont recall who it is but if anyone has any insight, or other companies, that would be great. Im actually looking to upgrade to 18" chrome turbo twists (I think they look sharp on a black 993) but looking at the chroming option first for my 17's.

First post here and I have 95 C4 993, black on black, Mille Migila exhaust, Fab Speed air box, BMC filter, LWF/Clutch upgrade, and chip by none other than Steve and Rennsports-who I owe dinner to the next time Im in Portland for all the insight and help with my 993. And much credit to Alex's Autohaus in Salt Lake City, UT for his patience, determination, work, upgrades, and dedication to my 993.

Drive it like you stole it!

I have a set, freshly chromed that I may want to sell. See my gallery for more pics of the wheels on my car. Currently the wheels are in storage in my warehouse.

BTW, these are 996 Turbo wheels (the real thing).

Dan993,

See my email about the wheels.

Nice ride by the way. Im starting to look at 993 Turbo's (97/96) but only in the early stages. I spent 8 months looking for my 993 and found a great one from a guy up in Incline Village (Tahoe). I even bought his 77 Bronco Sport a year later-both on Ebay. Both awesome shape and the Bronco is Seafoam Green with a 351 and several other mods and only 40k original miles. There is nothing better than finding a person who is very detailed and conscious about his vehicles condition.

WheelEnhancement.com also chromes wheels. They are a very reputable company that specializes in wheels for Porsches that has been used by many people on this site. You can buy factory Porsche wheels already chromed or send yours in to have them chromed. Scroll down to the bottom of this page: http://www.wheelenhancement.com/index.php?t=Wheels

Welcome to Rennlist.

Great looking ride. I put chrome 17" turbos on my 95 Cab. After searching and seeking advice I wanted a more compliant ride as my car is lowered and stiff. You'll probably get some flack from the purists about the bling-bling of chrome-Porshe only uses polished wheels due to the potential for cracking the finish. I agree with you and think they look great on my slate grey sled.

If you plan to chrome 18" 'twist' wheels, I would recommend buying a set of solid spoke versions and have them chromed vs. the hollow spokes. Seems as though some have had problems with chromed hollow spokes as the chrome shops cant completely drain the required acids used in chroming that make their way into the hollow spokes.. FWIW

BTW, welcome to Rennlist! More pics, please

Keep in mind that chrome and aluminum in the presence of salt make a great galvanci cell. So if you use them in a part of the country with salt and breach the chrome the chrome will flake off in the area of the scratch/scrape.

Looks like others have already chimed in with some good advice re: chroming wheels. Just wanted to say WELCOME to Rennlist -- glad to have you, and oh yah, more pics please.

Thanks for all the feedback on the wheels. I have been told about the ups and downs (more than ups) of the chrome. I guess living in Salt Lake means salt however my car never see's rain (unless I get caught in it) and snow it never touches. I will give it some serious thoughts and but I like the chrome, especially on black, and not a bling bling person by any means. Until I get a a folder going for pics, here are a few more of the toy pictures.

They are NR Aluminum pedals. They came from NR Auto Accessories in Sherman Oaks, CA-they also installed the pedals, shifter, white gauges, and emergency brake. Talk to Danny.

Chroming your wheels is bad. The chrome will eventually eat the rim. Porsche paints the rim chrome instead of chroming it.

Either way, I have a set of chrome wheels and tires if you are interested. tires have about 2000 miles on them.

Ill sell my NB 18" twist and tires for $1900 plus shipping. I have zero marks on them and no pothole issues etc. They are painted chrome. Check out my site.

I want Kinesis bad.

I've never ever heard of chrome eating aluminum over time. Where have you heard this, can you site some sources please?

back on topic, I have a set of chromed 18" twists on my 944 S2. If you are interested in a trade deal, I'd go for that.

I'll edit this post when I get the part numbers off of them.

They currently have Pirrelli P7000 tires with lots of tread. Fronts are 225/40 ZR18, and rears are 275/35 ZR18.

For what it's worth to keep in mind. I spoke to the guys at Wheel Enhancement about my options for wheels and when it came to chrome they recommended against them for anyone in a high humidity area. Said they would not hold up. Don't shoot the messenger, just passing on what the "experts" told me.
