Fooling the OEM spoiler module

Fooling the OEM spoiler module
Maybe y'all know about this, but I noticed today that if I just give the spoiler a quick up-tick on the rocker switch with the car at rest and before it would normally be automatically raised, then:
1. It still rises at the usual stock speed (48mph for me)
2. It stays up from that point on
This is particularly useful for me on certain segments of my commute to avoid the thing going up and down like a wh%$&s knickers, while maintaining the cooling advantages (if any) compared to other module programming. I also don't like the Ruf programming because I don't want it going back down at 40mph just to rise up again at speed or not at all if I don't get back to 80mph.
Of interest, a single, quick down-tick on the rocker switch will then lower the spoiler in any situation where it otherwise would have lowered itself. Again, I can select this moment at the appropriate point during my commute to optimize the life of the spoiler motor assembly.
Works for me, Yumm ... Mobil 1

Mostly just goofing around with the thing ... I thought that since you can manually raise the spoiler at your will and have it stay up that maybe if the module had that indication first something like this might work ... from early experimentation, it seems that you have to give it a quick nudge up with the car at rest (or possibly very low speeds)

Two additional details I have discovered:
1. To later lower the spoiler with a one-touch of the switch, the car must be moving (at rest, you have to hold the switch to complete this operation)
2. I have had the spoiler lower on me in the usual automatic way after what would have been four or five cycles of up and down, but have not yet done enough experimentation to assess the consistency of this???
The mystery continues :-)

this is the thread i was looking for.
now that my question of whether others also manually operate the spolier is answered, i can give you my take.
the spoiler 'lifts' at 49mph if it's down- period.
the spoiler retracts at 10mph if you don't tell it otherwise.
for one touch to work, the car should be between 10 and 49mph. toggle up position will lift spoiler if it isin't already up- but if it's up, this action will keep it up until you tell it to go down. even if you kill the engine, it will stay up until the next time the car goes over 49 then under 10. again- unless you tell it otherwise.
one touch operation only works if the car is between 10 and 49mph. if you're over 49mph, the spolier button is ignored anyway. if you're under 10, the motor only runs while the button is pressed (press and hold)
so to summarize: what i do is wait till the spoiler lifts on it's own after driving over 49, then next time i need to come to a stop, i wait till the speedo is between 10 and 49 and hit the up toggle. this keeps it up till i finally get to work. as i approach work, i hit the down toggle before i pull in and the spoiler retracts. one up, one down. this opposed to the 10 cycles it would complete without intervention.
i think

Mike .... I think you've got a good synopsis here .... only things to add is that:
1. The one-touch down as "you approach work" must also be operated in the 10 - 49 range (I think) ... if you go below 10 then it must be held down to fully retract;
2. If you give it a one-touch up first thing after starting and before you get moving, then when you reach deployment speed it will come up and stay up for the entire commute independent of speed variations and still subject to 1. above (this is good because then you don't have to remember to give it that one touch at the right moment later); and
3. I am curious about your 10 cycles remark ... does this mean that after exactly 10 full cycles it will return to automatic operation??
Cool heh (that's Canadian) :-)

no, no. what i was saying is that i have so many stoplights on roads with 45-55mph speed limits, that the spoiler goes up and down like a yo-yo if i don't get involved.
i'm like you. i feel like it's just wearing out the equipment.

Doug,
Hey, I got around to trying it and it works. I had never bothered raising it manually (to keep it up) in the past because it seemed like such a bother sitting there holding the switch in. But the one touch feature is great ...really easy and no more stupid up/down at each light! This is really great. Thanks for the fabulous find, Doug!

I'm going to try this after work...I have to go through 5 really really annoying traffic lights on the way to and from work, seemingly timed to never let anyone get anywhere without getting stuck at at least 2 of them....so, hopefully it will work as described and I won't have the thing going up and down all over the place....

Now for the stupid question...how do you guys know is working? I mean..I don't see the spoiler in my rearview mirror. I have to check on the reflection of other cars or look for shadows on the road. Or like my avatar, becuase someone took a picture of it..
Also, I have bee toying with the idea of installing a LED on the center console that lights up when the spoiler is up. Anyone knows how to acomplish this? Where would I tap into?
